St. Francis of Assisi: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen and Thank you for this prayer on Ash Wednesday of all days. I walked to Church today and spent a lot of time visiting the Stations of the cross. St. Francis is one of our Family Favorites. We have been parishioners of many Churches, and lived near many Catholic Churches, but I don't know all of the Saint Prayers. My current Church is St. Justin, The Martyr. Happy Ash Wednesday
Can't say I do. I think, other than the Blessed Mother, my favorite saint is St. Jude and, of course, St. Anthony. I don't say "a prayer", I just talk to them. St. Anthony has helped me find, especially now that I'm "more mature", any number of items. I just say, "OK, St. Anthony, need your help to find ______" and I usually find it.
The phrase we use is, St. Anthony, Saint Amthony, look around, something's lost and can't be found. Amen
I lived by a Catholic Church on almost every corner, divided of course by nationality. Big beautiful cathederal churches. They closed them all but 3. So sad, I can't even go past the one I grew up in, it'll break my heart. Yes, time for Stations of the Cross. Hard to find Catholic Churches in Nashville there are a few, The one where I live is jammed every Mass. St. Christophers just put in a 'praying garden' and has the Stations of the Cross going around it.
If you ever want to see beautiful Churches, google The following Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Lucy's Chuch, both in Newark, NJ. Or St. Peters Church in Belleville, NJ. Absolutely the most beautiful churches I have ever seen. St.Lucys, and Saint Gerard, that's where all of our children, and grandchildren were Baptized. It's been our Original Parish Church for generations. Sorry for the ramble, just feeling sentimental Take care, and thanx for responding to this thread.
I went to the church in Santa Fe, NM, can't think of the name of it now... dang it... it has the miraculous steps.. it's one you walk into and just the feeling overtakes you. They had the church built and never built stairs to the choir loft for the nuns. One day a man on a donkey came in didn't say anything and made these circular steps up to the choir. They are perfect no architect can figure out how they are standing perfect and they're nailed well not nailed put together with wooden pegs. Story is that it was St. Joseph. The nuns came to thank him and he was gone.
St. Lucy's Church has a life size statue of Jesus encased in glass, after He was taken off the cross, it is so life-like. . I could look at it forever. And an arced marble stair case on each side of St. Gerard. It is an absolutely peaceful place. You feel the, "reverence," walking thru the gates and grounds, they have benches near several statues, and the ground is made of pavers with Family Names who contributed to the remodel. Sacred Heart Cathedral is the Head of the NJ Catholic Diocese. The Cathedral is booked for weddings Years in advance, but they also have an ante-chamber, a smaller Church, inside the Cathedral. Old Churches are renowned for the Architechtural Design, the ceilings are Hand painted, and the Stained Glass, there's nothing like it. I agree with you, Churches are like Museums. Have a good Wednesday.
God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change God grant me the courage to change the things I can God grant me the wisdom to know the difference. Amen
THE REST OF THE SERENITY PRAYER: Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.
Amen. The one I quoted was a key chain medallion, I carry it w/me. Thanx. A Blessing for this house May the Sacred Heart of Jesus Warmly bless this home, Keep all who live here In His loving care And welcome all who visit In friendship and peace. Amen "Peace I leave with you My peace I give to you." John 14:27 Mass Card Sacred Heart Cathedral, Newark, NJ
May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. St. Theresa
