Absolutely, Dr. Stephen Rauch at Mass Eye and Ear in Boston. He is so wonderful. Listens, responds, educates-- the best. After 2 years at another large area hospital with a "supposed expert" at a "renowned" balance center who could have cared less that my mom was getting sicker and sicker, finding Dr. Rauch has been like a dream come true.

I would highly recommend my Neurotologist, Dr. William Merwin. He specializes in vestibular disorders, not only Meniere's Disease. There are only 3 doctors listed on VEDA's website for the state of TN, he's one of them.

    Dr. William Merwin, Jr.
    Baptist Medical Tower
    101 Blount Ave., Ste. 500
    Knoxville, TN 37920 U.S.A.
    (865) 632-5999

When I last went to see him, I brought out a typed sheet of things I wanted to talk about: things that had gotten better, things that hadn't changed, things that had gotten worse, etc. It was a very detailed list (in point form). Instead of having me read from it, he took it from me and went through each and every item, one by one. Made a few notes on it, then put it in my file! I was so shocked ...in a very pleasant way, wasn't expecting him to keep MY notes .. LOL. I just didn't want to forget anything.

Here's the best thing: I was upset about getting a diagnosis of bilateral MM and Tullio's Phenomenon ... but he gave me HOPE!

    Great Thread..

for me I am in the process (once my son is out of the woods) of getting a referral first to another Neuro-surgeon, Dr. Bruce Pollock - Mayo clinic, Rochester, MN... and then if he agrees with where I am at from having the VNS done over 18 months ago then I will be referred to Dr. Timothy Hain in Chicago, IL. I won't be doing either until I know my son is feeling better and I can be gone but once he is then I will be getting the referral to another surgeon first. My neurologist thought it would be best to see another Neuro-surgeon for a 2nd opinion prior to seeing Dr. Hain.. she still thinks something with my VNS isn't right and that last CT scan showing a bone defect and some spinal fluid in the posterior mastoid she believes is a problem even though the doctor that did my surgery says it is completely normal. I think I need another opinion ... even just for peace of mind.

Sounds like a very good plan Gina. I am glad you have that neurologist batting for you.

Hope your son is feeling better soon.

I see Dr> Doug Chen at Pittsburgh Ear--he gave me my diagnosis. He's a nice man and I'm sure a good surgeon but he pretty much follows standard MM protocols--doesn't seem to on the cutting edge of new research.
For a second opinion I saw Dr. Barry Hirsch at UPMC Eye and Ear Hospital. They are a big teaching hospital that I would think would be more into research. I liked him too.

Have any of you ever gone to Johns Hopkins in MD? I've never been, but it's not too far for me to travel to, and I know they seem to have an excellent reputation in many areas.

Any of the docs at Florida Ear and Sinus/Silverstein Institute in Sarasota, FL are awesome. Many have written the books on MM and/or developed treatments and protocols that others across the country are following. They have an excellent Fellowship Program too that puts out some really good specialists. Specifically I have seen Dr Silverstein and one of his Fellow, a nice young Dr. Young. Silverstein isnt much on chit-chat. He will answer questions, do this business, tell you what you need to know and he is off to the next patient. His staff is attentive, caring and personable.

I've just started going to Dr. Linde and I really appreciate his approach. He has four offices in locations in northern VA.

I see Dr. Stephen R. Gold at Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates. He is a very serious guy but I have made him laugh once or twice. ;D I trust him completely.

One of my friends is an otolaryngologist in Charlotte too and she says all the doctors here send dizzy patients to Dr. Gold. He is considered the best for Meniere's in this area.

    Thank you June!

I have seen Dr. Cameron Shaw. He's an ENT. My problem is I don't know enough to know if he is the "right" doctor for me. Does anyone know of a neuro here in Colorado Springs or Denver?

And for all you Canadians out there Dr. Fraser Noel - Victoria, British Columbia. Or Dr Lorne Parnes in London Ontario. Dr Jack Kolenda in Oakville Ontario has the worst office design I have ever seen for an ear doc. Plastic Laminate floors and I swear they all wear tap shoes. As a doc (if you survive the waiting room) is ok but not great
