There's a dentist in the Philadelphia area named Dr. Ira Adler who treats MM as a symptom of TMJD. Has anyone heard of him or been to see him?

There's a Facebook group called "Meniere's No More" run by a person who says she got her life back from being treated by him for TMJD. Curious to know if anyone else has heard anything good about him.

Do you know exactly what he does to treat it? Of course, this would only work if you have TMJD. Or is Dr. Adler implying that MM is a result of undiagnosed TMJD?

I just called them since i live in NJ.

Its 600 bucks out of pocket to get him to look for TMJ. seems like they take several x rays.

I have not heard of many people on here being cured from a TMJ situation but that being said...I would be interested to hear if anyone has.

And just because you have TMJ doesn't necessarily mean that is the cause of your Meniere's. I'm curious to find out what his theory is behind this.

I saw that article as well but I'm a little suspicious as it was published on a PR website. Something tells me it was paid for...

I saw Dr. Adler and he told me my MM was the result of untreated TMJ. He tried to sell me a "Gelb" appliance for $3k and Invisalign braces for another $5k.

I wouldn't rule out that I have TMJ because I clench my jaw all the time, but $8k a lot of dough. That's why I thought I'd ask here, to see if anyone else had had luck seeing him.

This is the Facebook group if anyone's interested in reading more about the woman who started it and her story, which sounds pretty incredible: https://www.facebook.com/MenieresNoMore

I want to believe it's real but you know, gotta keep your wits about you on the Internet.

Get a second opinion from an unrelated dentist. Find out if you really have tmj first.

The real doctors never promise a cure. They may be hopeful, they may think they can improve your situation but they never promise a cure.

I saw Dr. Alder and what he said made more sense than anything else I have heard about meniere’s. I have TMJ. I have been clenching my teeth for years. He is the second dentist I have seen. He actually takes X-rays of your jaw. I could see the damage to my condyle joint in the jaw. I have lots of calcium deposits around the joint. When I clench my teeth my jaw pulls to the right. In my X-ray my right condyle bone is way closer to my ear than the left side. He did not say he could cure it. He said he thinks he can help. That’s more than anyone else has said. He has helped other people with meniere’s. There is also a dentist on Oaklahoma City who has had some success.

    What's did he prescribe?

    Has it provided any relief?

    Thanks!

But has Dr. Adler said why TMJ causes Meniere's? There are a lot of people out there with TMJ but I bet the majority of them don't have Meniere's. Looking at the Facebook page, it appears that while TMJ may cause Meniere's like symptoms, it's not actually Meniere's these people have.

What Dr. Alder said is TMJ is causing the symptoms ENT docs are calling meniere’s. My chiropractor agrees with him. He wants to make an orthotic that pulls the jaw bone down and forward. I have not started any treatment yet. The people he has success with have a condyle bone pushed back toward their ear.

Uh! Not really. I do know a good Torrance dentist who will be able to treat you well. I have been going to him for a very long time now and I believe my teeth are amazing because of him. Thank god, my mom was responsible enough for my teeth at the early stage of my life.

My god. It's one thing to take a chance on something for a few hundred bucks or a grand. But he's asking for serious cash.

My thought is always, if there was a real breakthrough, it'd be the talk of the town. It'd be in every major newspaper in the country. CNN, nightly news, Good Morning America, etc. Like when the blood pressure drugs came out. Or Sovaldi for hepatitis C. If some dentist made a real breakthrough with dizziness, he'd be in Time's annual 100 Most Important People edition. I don't recall seeing Adler in any of them in the last 10 years.

Use your intuition. This is a clever nation with clever people. We didn't reach nearly $20 billion GDP by focusing on honesty. We've sold each other pet rocks. Bottled up water and sell it for 2 bucks a pop.

I think most of us with meniere’s are just looking for a way to manage the symptoms. I spent 4 years getting treatment from the ENT. Thousands of dollars on shots and co-pays let alone missing work. Saw a specialist at Hopkins with no answers. I had dizziness, full ear, loud tinnitus, vertigo, and declining hearing. With my symptoms getting worse I went to see Dr. Alder. What did I have too lose. I started wearing my appliance in July and am symptom free right now. I wore it all day except when eating until December. I now wear it at night only. I have a hearing test in February that I can’t wait to take because I think it has improved. Dr. Alder may not be able to help everyone with meniere’s but he helped me and that’s all that matters to me. So to each his own. Everyone is just looking to get better. Many people are willing to think outside of the box if it means no stuff ears, dizziness, vertigo, or drop attacks.

Yes, TMJ treatment is very expensive, but that is the route I am going next month. I have had TMJ issues since I was a kid. I have always wondered if it was the cause of MY Meniere's but never tried because of cost. I have tried many, many things over the last 6 years and nothing has helped. Including high dose antivirals. I went through TMJ testing back in October, including a 3D Cone Beam Scan. It showed pretty significant issues. I also have limited opening. I feel it is finally time to stop wondering and just go for it. My husband is 100% on board with me. I really feel that this could be it for me. But I won't know for sure until I try. Worse comes to worse, it should at least fix my jaw pain and jaw mobility issues.
