    Hello,

I had vestibular testing done recently. I have the reports but I don't really understand what it means in practical terms and was so worn out by testing in went in one ear and out the other. Can anyone give me some insight? Doc is super nice and I can ask him questions via messaging if I need to.

VNG test: results are abnormal. Caloric testing shows a right ear weakness and a borderline left ear weakness
    vHITL: normal
VEMP: abnormal, eVEMP is normal, oVEMP is normal in left, responses for right ear are absent

He gave me oral steroids, changed my diuretic, and prescribed betahistine. Emphasized low salt which frankly I'm struggling with because I normally eat out a lot. The dizziness and vertigo seem to have cleared, but still lots of ear fullness which is bothering me.

Catofsail, if you are struggling with low salt, then potassium can also help eliminate salt from your body. Banana and tomato are a couple of examples. I'll let your doc answer to your questions on your testing that he did. These prescriptions may give you mild, temporary relief and will not be enough. I would quickly go away from any doctor who prescribes oral steroids as they will have significant side effects that may eventually make things worse. One of the best doctors who "prescribes" aerobic exercises with 90% success rate put steroids as contraindication (taboo).

I can recommend looking for the dentist who articulates remedy to Meniere's near you. Some are listed at the bottom of my document. And we have many other ways to improve the situations including exercises, antivirals and supplements.

Thanks Hiro. I've requested a new script for antivirals. I really liked the doctor and he was realistic about there being different and/or multiple causes of MD.

I do see a chiropractor and have seen an acupuncturist and a craniosacral therapist. I've been doing the neck exercises you have referenced. Thankfully the vertigo seems under control. The ear fullness just bothers me and keep me from feeling comfy on my motorcycle. My budget is a bit taxed to add a dentist in right now, but will look at next if I don't get resolution.

My VNG was abnormal on my bad side. My VEMP was normal.

Any thoughts? Anyone else with confusing VEMP results?

I used a powerful distraction/meditation technique during the test - is it possible that made a difference?

(The doctor says if we based it solely on the VEMP then she couldn’t call it Menieres. But I have all the classic symptoms and signs. Based on that and the VNG she agreed it’s Menieres and will treat me.)

I just read Hains’ article about VEMPs. The test sounds fraught with errors and inconsistencies so I’m not going to fuss about it.

Funny you say this today... I just read likely the same hains thing yesterday as I was obsessing about my own results! My calorics were weak especially on my bad side, (but vertigo is not one of my symptoms, just floaty), and my vemps had prolonged latencies. hit was normal. It’s a mystery, apparently. Frustrating that no specialist can put the pieces together even with these crazy tests.
