I didn't really know how complex meniers was. I had a hearing screening test a couple of days ago which came back normal. One was at the end of normal but was still quite happy but now been told this is the wrong test and need a full one. I've done my research and found out there's about 12 different hearing tests and no1 seems to know which one I need.
    Theres the following:

    Pure tone test
    Bone conduction test
    Speech, speech discrimination test
    Test for middle ear
    Tympanometry test
    Acoustic reflux threshold
    Auditory brainstorm response
    Otoacoustic emissions testing
    Shoebox audiometry
    ECog

Does a normal full hearing test provide these? I don't want to pay for the wrong test
    Thanks.

I have no idea what some of the tests you have listed are but I suspect they are to check for specific types of damage. To determine regular hearing loss, it should include the pure tone test and the speech test. The only other tests you listed that I have had to help diagnose Meniere's are the ABR and EcoG tests. And it's actually called Auditory Brainstem Response.

The hearing test don't include ABR and ecoG so I'll get those separate. Thank you so much!

Apparently it's very important having the right test and I'm wondering if people are booking a standard hearing test which don't include the most important ones.

For my diagnosis, they only did the pure tones test to confirm hearing loss. Then they did a test that consisted of the same thing, but in my healthy ear they put in strong wind noise and in the other ear they did not put a earphone on me but rather a kind of clamp behind my ear, pressing hard on the bone. I had to indicate when I heard the tones this way, the audiologist told me that it was to check the state of my auditory nerve.

I do not know what this last test is called.

I think it was either the ABR or ECoG test. I'm checking this without the help of my ENT doctor. I don't find him very helpful. Thought I'd probably best doing it myself they just don't have a clue. Thanks for the email.

My ENTs were not very collaborative either, also among themselves they told me different diagnoses: The first two told me that the cause of my meniere was a small malformation that appeared on the MRI, but the last one said no. None wanted to do other tests to rule out causes, I had to ask for a cervical x-ray for example. They also didn't want to read the papers I brought them about a Meniere treatment I want to try.

So I'm a bit on my own, right now I'm trying to go to the maxillofacil to remove the wisdom teeth that have been bothering me these months.

Find an audiologist who is familiar with MM. Mine administered exactly what I needed. Although my left ear is all but deaf, he explained how that ear helps my right ear through the bone conduction.

Ok thanks. I'm going with Specsavers ha ha with a referral from my GP. They do the pure tone test and one to do with the nerve. Its free and I'll ask the audiologist about other tests.

ECOG can show anything, not strictly Meniere's. It can also show eustachian tube dysfunction. It's not the most reliable.
