I am in the US and had the option of a compounding pharmacy or Canada. I did Canada as it was less money.
I couldn't tolerate it though. There are side effects despite what people claim.

Just curios, what were your side effects ? I have been on it a month, no vertigo during that time but tinnitus is the same.

 

I have a strange electrical heart condition. I already take a beta blocker, which lowers my blood pressure, which I don't need to lower. The betahistine lowered it even more, making getting up a flight of stairs a struggle.
If I didn't have the heart condition, I would likely not have an issue with it.
I'm not stopping the beta blocker. Vertigo is bad, death is worse.

Except for people with other chronic illnesses who will need regular checkups just in case. No major side effect has been found in taking betahistine for a long time, as all medications can cause allergies in some people, but it is rare. Its main side effect may be stomach pain or headache.

Stomach pain can be solved by taking it over meals. The headache goes away in a week or two, and it's not clear if betahistine gave me a headache or if it was the hangover from my vertigo.

The good news is that for those of us who work like me and the creator of this thread, it does help reduce the frequency of vertigo and dizziness as well as its duration. What I did not know is that I could reduce them for 4 years as he says, I have only been taking it for 6 months.

For tinnitus, betahistine can help in some cases; but it is not common for it to relieve tinnitus. What I can tell you is that I was taking 24mg every 8 hours for 10 days due to a severe dizziness that I had and I don't know if it was a coincidence or because of increasing the dose, but I spent 4-5 days with much lower tinnitus and hearing much better. Now I am on 18mg every 12h and the tinnitus has risen again.

I was on Betahistine for 4 years and it was great for me. 2x a day 24mg no side effects at all. I run out of it in the US and had a really bad time for 3 days. I just found out you can get it at compound pharmacies. You can call a pharmacy in your area and they will give you the names of doctors that will prescribe it. I also started the B6/B5 protocol yesterday while I wait for my appointment to get an American Betahistine prescription.

 

Is Betahistine good for controlling HSV-1 and HSV-2? Are you taking B-complex or B5 125 and B6 100? Thanks

 

Betahistine only helps prevent dizziness and vertigo, dont cure viruses, bacteria or fungi or anything. It increases blood circulation in the inner ear and that can help more blood reach that area and therefore more antibodies and antivirals if you are taking it. But by itself it does not cure anything.

I wasn't aware of the possibility of viral causes to Meniere until I found this forum. However, from what I read in other posts, Betahistine keeps the symptoms at bay but it is not an AV. I am taking a B complex. Here is the one I bought: . I have been using it for 4 days and the ringing seems to be getting better.

 

Would you mind telling me how you got it from Canada? I have a prescription from a Canadian doctor, but the pharmacies I connected with in Canada would only fulfill the prescription of an American doctor... Unfortunaty, I wasn't able to get a prescription here yet.

My Dr. just mailed me a prescription. I then took care of it myself.
The online pharmacy made it pretty easy. Process took three weeks though.
