Hello all. As always, I’m grateful to have this community to come to for answers and support. I was in remission for 5 years until yesterday. My hearing loss began after I consumed 40 grams of dark chocolate. Hearing on my affected ear gradually got worse and now it’s basically gone. I took 96mg of my betahistine having weaned off of it for almost a year. Should I wait to see my Otolaryngologist tomorrow or should I go to urgent care? In the past they put me on prednisone but wanted to check here what others might suggest. This being my third episode of sudden hearing loss in 10 years due to my Ménière’s is probably another course of the disease for me.
They were unable to give me a consult. Gave me a prescription for prednisone like before. I’ll see my oto tomorrow morning. Curious. They gave me 50mg for 6 days not the traditional two week regiment that tapers off. Thoughts?
When that happens to me I double my diuretics, take an allergy pill, double up on a product called "Clear Sinus and Ears", double on on a product called "Inner Ear Balance" and stand by with the Valium and meclizine just in case. I am convinced it is that endolympatic sac filling up and I do every thing i can to get the fluid out before it bursts.
Hi, I hope by now you are on steroids! This is the very reason I keep a Medrol Dose pack, (the burst dose that gradually tapers you off in 6 days), on hand. That chocolate messes with me too. Best to you!
Update here. Hearing still in the pits but mild vertigo gone. Third injection is tomorrow (three in ten days) and now on oral prednisone 7th day at 80 mg plus back on diuretic and betahistine. Definitely sack ruptured because I felt the the fluid sloshing around. Have been on low sodium diet for years. I think stress did it this time but my precursor signs started with a low reverberating feeling in the ear. Now ruling out allergies both environmental and food. This is my third major episode. I’d like to get back to where I was with left ear; however, MM is degenerative and perhaps I may have done more damage on number three. Time will tell with hearing. Usually in the past hearing has come back in 3-4weeks. Love this forum for learning new things about out condition. What is Medrol Pack?
I am still surprised the establishment has not made a conclusion on endolympatic rupture that causes this issue. It’s a theory for sure unless I’ve missed something. You have surgeons doing shunts and the results are not encouraging. I know they have worked for some, but not enough to conclude sad fluid is the root cause. MM is an orphan disease. Not enough research going in this area. Tinnitus, on the other hand, affects millions. That’s where you are the dollar funding research.
Medrol Dose Pack is burst pack of 6 pills first day and one less pill per day until gone. I am in Calif. All the best to you!
I’m in California too, San Jose area. What pills are we talking about? Would love to chat more if you are local. Perhaps via text?
