Good morning all. I am new to this forum and to Meniere's. I had my first attack last 6 months ago and another about 5 weeks ago. My first attack passed in a couple hours, second lasted 8 hours, wobbly for couple days and severe hearing loss in left ear. I have hearing aids and they have been adjusted for the hearing loss, but it just sounds like a broken speaker (hearing aid is fine, the rest of me is messed up). Has anyone else experienced this? Did it gradually get better? Thanks in advance.
Good morning! My MD started as my left ear felt plugged and needed to pop. Also, music had the broken speaker effect. Dizzy on occasion, but took over a year before the vertigo to kick in. I had to go to several ENTs before finding one that was ok. I'm close to 5 years since diagnosed and have good days and not so good on occasion. Good luck and blessings!
My timing was similar to yours, I am now 2 years with both attacks having plugged ear, vertigo and vomiting. Did the "broken speaker" get better with time? I am at six weeks since my last attack and wondering. Thanks
After the insane vertigo and BPPV episodes, I went to a no processed food, low sodium diet. I was below 600mg a day and started getting light headed, so boosted it up to 750. Take lots of vit C, 180 mg pycnogenol and lipoflavanoids. I was great for almost 2 years. Some days my ear was 95% normal hearing and hardly any tinnitus. Then last November, ear crashed with hypersensitivity, loud tinnitus. Didn't take long for the vertigo to return and crazy dizzy /balance issues. Went to vestibular physical therapy again for a few sessions. All good with that. Been doing it daily since the beginning and it helps the brain compensate. BUT.... The ear fullness and hypersensitivity fluctuates but not going away. Been awhile since last vertigo. I am currently looking into Vestibular Migraine elimination diet. Sometimes goes hand in hand with menieres. We shall see in a few weeks. I can tell you that my ear has slightly improved with cutting out some of the foods I was eating daily. Might be worth a look.
Thanks for the info. I have had tinnitus since the Navy 40 years ago, so hard for me to use as a gauge. I will look into the diet.
