John, the Vitamin K-2 you indicated you take 100mg. Do you take 100mg or 100mcg? Thanks for all you do.

    My experience.

Having been diagnosed years ago, it had diminished over the past few years until June 23 of 2022 when it came back with a vengeance. After nothing else worked, I began the JOH regimen on July 22. My symptoms went through the roof for most of August, but I persisted. Towards the end of August and into September, I started feeling better. I had a few small(ish) episodes in September. Two in October and two in November. Although the last four were not quite full-on vertigo. Since my last episode on November 19, I've had no reoccurrence of any of the symptoms. I still have tinnitus and hearing loss in my left ear, but it's stable. No vertigo. No nausea. This morning I tried lying flat on the floor. Something I'd never been able to do without getting nauseous. I was surprised that it didn't trigger anything. I didn't want to tempt, so I didn't do it for long. But it was weird to put my head flat on the floor.

Anyway. Is it the JOH regimen? Or did my Menieres just go into remission again. Who knows. It could've just been coincidence. I'm sticking to it, though.

Hello. I have just found this website and had to join after seeing this discussion.

I am not diagnosed with menieres but it has been mentioned. ENT discharged me simply saying it was my ear nerves because of my cervical spinal curve loss.

I have taken aciclovir in the past for cold sores which are always accompanied with trigeminal neuralgia. I never associated the two conditions until recently when I learned I was low on iron (which viruses feed off?) and began supplementing.

I have tried to supplement iron 6 times since September with the same outcome- major flair up of menieres symptoms and viral symptoms. This happens even when on lysine and aciclovir.

I believe my ear problems are viral due to this and achieving a huge reduction in symptoms through lysine, aciclovir and antihistamines (until I involve iron) despite having neck problems, although I tested negative for hsv 1 so its maybe a different virus.

I've concluded I'll have to stay away from iron supplementation and get back on aciclovir due to a current iron induced flare up

Hello, I'm new to the site, I found a lot good information, I have fighting MM for the last 3 years, with frequent attacks for the last 2 years. I'm looking to start the JOH regimen and also taking antiviral, has any one tried just antiviral? if so, what result have you experience.
I have visited specialists at Mass Eye and Ear in Boston but so far no good treatment or options.
I'm so glad to found this community since I have not come across anyone who has this live changing condition.

I do both, but I did JOH for about 3 months before starting valacyclovir. I believe that JOH helped me - decreased ear fullness and no major dizziness. I’ve been on 3000mg/daily valacyclovir for two weeks now and I noticed positive changes around the 1 week mark, notably, 75% of the time I can swallow without discomfort, which quite honestly, has changed my life.

Hello, I just went to my neurologist and he does not recommend taking acyclovir long-term due to possible kidney issues. Are there consequences with taking acyclovir short or long-term?

Short answer is no but get blood work done at least every 12 months. I've been taking valacyclovir for 4 years now with no problems.

Can I ask where you got the valacyclovir? Do you think the valacyclovir is better than the acyclovir?

Most of us are getting it via a prescription from our GP or ENT. There’s not really solid evidence of what’s better, but most would say Valacyclovir is “better” due to a higher bioavailability. Bioavailability for Acyclovir is something like 25%, Valacyclovir around 55%, and Famciclovir at 75%.

Hello John, i had a question regarding the regimen, lemon bioflavanoid tablets are to be taken with or without food? And what is the optimal dosage.
Lastly, I’ve been reading some reports about Lysine being nephrotoxic and causing renal failure. Is it safe to take lysine 3000 mg everyday forever?

For lemon bioflavonoid take the daily dosage mentioned on the product label.

Long-term 3000 mg daily of lysine may be problematic in those with kidney dysfunctions. Otherwise, I can find no reports of concern.

Hi John- if your herpes tests are all negative should one drop the Lysine? And if on betahistine should one drop the vitamins that increase bloodflow to the ear- as the beta is already doing that? Many thanks

I find no studies showing that herpes tests are universally able to detect all herpes virus infections. There is a wide diversity of herpes viruses and no assurance that all can be detected. Instead of using a herpes virus test to determine when to stop lysine, wait until Meniere's symptoms have ended for some good period; probably several months.

I am not familiar with the mechanism of action of betahistine. I've never taken it. It's not much prescribed in the US. I wouldn't stop anything that works to suppress Meniere's symptoms. Use whatever works.

ok, yes, I see. Betahistine increases the blood flow to the inner ear so I'll start without some of the pills and see how it goes. Many thanks for replying.

I you aren't, begin to take 5000IU of Vitamin D-3 each day, along with 300 to 400 mg of magnesium, in the form of magnesium glycinate. Spread the magnesium out in several dosings through the day. 400mg at one time can loosen the bowels. Finally, also take vitamin K-2 each day. Those three things, in combination, strongly support the immune system's ability to stop viral infections such as colds and flues. Since taking those, over 12 years ago, I've never had a cold or flue.
