Hi there, I've been reading up on antifungals and see lots of discussion around Nystatin, fluconazole and the like, but not any mention of it that I can find beyond this database entry: Meniere's May Be Mold/Fungus Induced Anybody have experience with it? Like so many of us have done, I've been thinking about health markers that have preceded my diagnosis of Meniere's and the symptoms that go along with it. Being in Canada I can actually get fluconazole OTC (for vaginal infections), but I know Variconazole is broader spectrum (eg. it works on Aspergillus)
Hi, yes absolutely! My MD came back in 2012 because my bedroom had become mouldy. I didn't find it for years and it got worse and worse through that time. Attacks every day, more and more food allergies (triggers). The only thing I could do to control it was stick to an anti-fungal diet, but ultimately I went around in circles.
To date it was the only drug intervention that helped and it helped a lot! I took all the AFs the doctor was able to prescribe until they all stopped working! Terbinafine, and the azoles. Nystatin wasn’t strong enough. I now use Candex, an antibiofilm enzyme combination that is good minus the side effects of the drugs. I stay sugar free and all the old triggers are no longer triggers. Although yeast makes my tinnitus worse still. Check out my website, I write about it and help others Tim-rees.com. All the best.
Yes, it a v strong enzyme blend that breaks up the protective layer fungus (and other microbes) use to hide from our immune systems and drugs, herbs etc. when you’ve had a chronic Candida infection (and perhaps that’s what’s triggering the attacks) then they’ve had time to create this impenetrable city. They lurk there, spewing out chemicals that your body has to deal with, labouring the liver and immune system and creating a chronic low grade state of inflammation as well as leaky gut. I had a bad reaction the first time I took them but it was to whatever was revealed not to the enzymes. It was an allergic reaction exactly like I get to eating something with a lot of yeast—which is never anymore! I wrote about it.
Hi I just wrote on the original 2015 post you referenced but posting here again since this thread is much more recent. I linked an article below that connects mold with Meniere's that you might find interesting. Has anyone experienced any negative side effects from anti fungals? I'm nervous to try as I hear they are damaging to kidneys and the liver. Or has anyone ever tried anti fungal ear drops? I've had a mild case of suspected Meniere's in my left year since 2020 but 2 months ago I suddenly started experiencing an ultra intense version of symptoms - very loud tinnitus, ear fullness and pressure, tremmors, vertigo (I never had vertigo from Meniere's previously), brainfog, and basically processing sound was very painful. I was keeping a diary of daily symptoms and I could pinpoint the exactly day in which these symptoms first appeared. And I noticed the weekend before this day, I had spent the entire day cleaning out my extremely dusty, dirty, old garage. Through a recommendation, I went to see a naturopath who suspected I was exposed to toxic mold and sure enough my mycotoxin test revealed that I had extremely high IGG and IGE immune responses to a few different mycotoxins, including penicillium toxin. My naturopath also revealed to me this toxin has been linked to Meniere's, exacerbating inflammation in the ear. I later tested my garage and the results also showed there was a high level of penicillium toxin present. To me, this is a conclusive link that my ear issues are linked to mold, but I have yet to find an ENT who will agree with me as they cannot visually see any physical mold in my ear.. I've also been told by ENTs that you cannot get fungal infections in the inner ear which I don't believe to be true. I'm working with the naturopathic doctor to detox the mold from my body through supplements but my meniere's symptoms are still there (although they are better than at the start of this whole thing). I'm nervous to take anti fungals as I hear they are really harsh on the liver and kidneys, and I'm pretty sensitive to medications. Has anyone ever tried using anti fungal ear drops? I'm wondering if a localized approach would work and that way I could spare any damage to my liver / kidneys. Here's the article linking mold to Meniere's disease inflammation if anyone is interested. @Tim Rees - hi - have tried to contact you via your website contact form, but haven't heard back? would you mind letting me know if for you taking Candex has solved your MD please. I know you also mention on your site about also removing the source of the mold in your home! Any advice would be appreciated. thanks
Hi, I'm so sorry. I have responded to a few people recently from my website and never heard back from any of them. Ugh! Do you want to drop me an email, [email protected]
If you think it might be a fungal issue you can get someone to come to your place, put a test device in it for a day or so, and tell you if there's anything amiss.
