I'm waiting on a surgery date for VNS so wanted to solicit others' experience. I am definitely going to have the surgery, assuming insurance approves it, and I'm comfortable with my neurotologist and neurosurgeon. But I would love to hear from you if you've had this surgery. What would you have liked to know ahead of time? Anything that especially helped you post-op? Everyone is different; having said that, about how long did it take you to get back to normal? Anything else I'm not asking but should be? Thanks!
I did not have a vns but i did lose the hraring and balance nerve on the right side to acoustic neuroma surgery. What helped me rehab was walking. I walked with a walker til i could use a cane and then on my own but i walked and walked until i could ride a bike etc. just keep moving but of course pick safe places to walk. The other thing the sureon tod me was this kind of surgery and i assume he meant balance nerve, was for reasons they didnt quite understand, very fatiguing. At three months, i though i was recovered, but at six months i was much strong and even more so after a year. Be patient but keep moving.
