I purchased a Lenire device for tinnitus last week. It cost me more than $ 4,000.00, plus travel expenses as I drove over 1,000 miles round trip to get it. I will report back with improvement periodically, if any. You can find it by searching LENIRE. I hope I am not chasing another dream.
I'm on the waiting list for this, so I'm very interested in how it goes for you. I heard that for it to work you have to have some hearing in the problem ear, did they tell you that? It's all about quality of life my friend and wish you all the best because I know your tinnitus is particularly bad. If it makes you feel any better I'm over $5,000 into it for travel to take part in the SPI-1005 trials. I suspect it will cost me $8k by the time I'm done with the trial.

Thnaks MrE. You are correct on the amount of hearing required. In fact the company that makes Lenire has in their brochure it is not to be sold to Menieres patients. I called 4 clinics before I found one that would sell it to me. I am desperate !!! The first 3 told me the same thing about the hearing required. The 4th in Philadelphia told me she would sell it to me. She said Lenire had relaxed the prohibition on Menieres sales 60 days after it was approved for sale by the FDA. She (an audiologist) said the only reason it could not be sold to Menieres patients is that it was not tested on them- not that it wouldn't work.. She said I have enough hearing in my good ear so it's possible it would work on me - even if a little. So I took a $4000.00 chance because my tinnitus is so bad. I am on it a week, could take 2-3 months to see any improvement. I am her first Menieres patient. There are NO trial periods or refunds on it, if it doesn't work it's going on Ebay !
I completely understand why Meniere's is often an exclusion for these types of devices. They have a have a control environment and Meniere's is just too unpredictable for each person never mind across the entire population of people with Meniere's. Fluctuating hearing is probably the major symptom that causes the exclusion. However, money is money, and there will be clinics that will be more than willing to sell it to Meniere's patient and frankly why shouldn't they if we want to buy it? In addition to Lenire, I've also been reading about another device from a company called Auricle. It seems to be similar in some ways, but has some differences. It looks promising. It does not cure tinnitus. If successful t affects a person's awareness of it. Also, it is for minor to moderate hearing loss, not severe or profound loss. Part of me hope it works for people and another part sees it as a huge money grab. Please read everything you can find before you spend thousands $.
I recently came across a research study conducted by a Dutch professor who is currently developing a new device aimed at addressing tinnitus. This device identifies the specific frequency range affected by tinnitus and trains the brain to disregard the associated sound. While it is not yet available for commercial use, the concept appears promising. In addition, both a tinnitus specialist at my hospital and another expert at Oticon have indicated that studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of tinnitus treatment using masking sounds, which also help reduce tinnitus symptoms. Personally, I have noticed that when I do not use a masking technique for my tinnitus, the intensity of the sound increases, leading me to believe that there is some validity to this claim. It is worth noting that a pair of masking hearing aids are relatively cheap, costing at least 25% or less of the price of the aforementioned device. It goes without saying that they not only assist in alleviating tinnitus but also contribute to enhancing auditory capabilities. Personally, I cannot envision myself strolling about with headphones and a plastic spoon in my mouth either. I have confidence in the functionality of this company's technology, although I question its practicality and usefulness in everyday situations. No improvement after 6 weeks . I sent it back to be re tuned and just got it back a few days ago. If it does nothing after 12 more weeks it's going on the internet for sale.
