There is more than one component in the JOH regimen. I took all of the ingredients in the regimen for several years before moving to a modified version of JOH regimen. I am not sure that just taking Lysine will produce the desired result…. Just saying
Mountain man, I can tell you that I'm taking every supplement recommended by John's regiment and initially, it took me a month to start feeling better. I still get the attacks but only once a year or two. Wish you all the best.
For some it can take several months before the lysine stops the virus that causes most cases of Meniere's. Be sure, of course, to take the lysine absent any food, at least 20 minutes before eating or 2 hours after. If taken with food, it fails to work. But about 15% of Meniere's cases are not caused by a herpes virus, so the lysine won't work in those cases. --John of Ohio
Thank you for your feedbacks. I also take other supplements in addition to lysine (as recommended). But I didn't want to make the post unnecessarily long, as the main ingredient is lysine. So I will continue with the lysine and see if there is any improvement. At the moment my hearing is very bad again.
I still take 1000mg of lysine as a maintenance dose. Ginkgo Biloba A good multivitamin 2000mg of time released vitamin C John of Ohio discussed the following supplements on another thread so I have been using them with great success. This is the K2 I take: Vitacost Vitamin K2 (MK-7) with Nattokinase -- 100 mcg - 90 Softgels - Vitacost My magnesium: Kal Magnesium Glycinate -- 400 mg - 90 Tablets - Vitacost Vitamin D-3: Vitacost Vitamin D3 Mini Gels -- 5000 IU 365 Softgels - Vitacost
I started experiencing menieres symptoms about 4 years ago after a bout of covid or what I perceived as a prolonged upper respiratory infection. Over 2 years I experienced maybe a half dozen episodes of vertigo, and once I started taking triamterene-hctz and modifying my diet (low sodium, no caffeine, etc) I've been free of vertigo. However the ear fullness and hearing loss has continued in waves, usually with the periods of pressure and hearing loss lasting longer than the periods of relief. Currently I'm going on 3 weeks of left ear fullness and maybe 80% hearing loss. This follows maybe a month of mostly normal hearing in my left ear, albeit with louder than normal tinnitus. Since starting my JOH last Sunday I've noticed the pressure ramp up in BOTH ears, which hasn't happened in the past to my recollection, and I'm wondering if that could be a result of the regimen possibly doing it's job in initiating the suppression of my disease (if it's indeed viral) or if I've exacerbated and perhaps causes the spread of it to my good right ear (going bilateral). I don't want to stop and give up...but dont want to make things worse either. Wondering if there are people who have felt this exacerbation in the early stages and if so, how long did it take for the symptoms to subside. Given the fact that my hearing was the best it's been in years only 3.5 weeks ago gives me hope that if I can reduce the inflammation and restore functionality I may be able to restore my hearing. My biggest fear is of it spreading and taking out the one good side (right). I will add that I'm embarking on a massive career change in a month and if I lose hearing in both ears, ill be up a creek in a bad way! Any thoughts would be welcome
Hello Wes, I started using the JOH regimen back in 2017/2018. It took a good 6 months to kick in completely. My experience was the Ménière’s disease fighting back with the regimen so there were times the symptoms were worse before it got better. I still use the JOH regimen along with 24mg of betahistine every 8 hours and I have a pretty normal life but I did have to take an early retirement from my high stress job. I don’t have any vertigo or dizziness anymore but I lost about 90% of my hearing on my right side and about 35% on my left side. I can’t hear people in face to face meetings but with noise cancelling headphones for calls I am alright. But the remote work has mostly dried up in my field, I am kind of in no man’s land being to young to retire at 55 so I will be filing for disability in a few weeks. I suggest that you consider sticking with the JOH regimen for 6-9 months to see how you get on. It has been very helpful for me. All the best my friend!
Hi Wes. I feel your agony and struggle and hope you stay strong with your commitment to beat or contain this god awful disease out of your system. I have a pretty similar condition as yours. It happened to me a day after I took the 'booster shot'. The following morning I woke up deaf in my right ear and then started working on my left. After a long struggle, I was able to get a Cochlear implant for my right ear and my left hearing loss has now stopped at around 45%. I had no hopes of the vertigo and dizziness to go away until I saw John's regiment and since I lost my faith in the conventional medicine that I had been prescribed, I started taking the regiment along with reduced salt and caffeine. It honestly took me about 3 weeks to notice a change then about 2 months to stop having attacks. That was around 3 years ago and I'm very thankful to John and his regiment. I still take the regiment religiously and don't see myself stopping or reducing it, mostly out of fear of having the episodes coming back. I also do Vestibular exercises every day on my own. Nowadays, I may have a minor episodes once a year or two. So, stay strong and faithful to the regiment, if it is what I have, it will work. By the way, when I first show it to my my doctors, they all said that my recovery is not because of the supplements but because of my ears & brain learning to balance. Exactly as John said about doctor's reaction to his regiment but I ignored their response and now reaping the benefits. I haven't tried Acyclovir, but some people on this forum have positive feedbacks and John also mentions it as well. I had sleepless nights and though about quitting my job but had a great company that supported me throughout the entire process and I'm still working with not much problem. I stay away from stress as much as possible because when I have a high stress, I notice the change so I exercise and meditate right through it and I'm about your age. Wes, I wish and pray that you recover quickly and get back to enjoying life and your family. It will happen!
Did your symptoms worsen when initially starting JOH regimen? I've noticed a worsening in the fullness and hearing loss with this 1st week and the fullness is actually bilateral. I'm hoping that it will eventually resolve and lead to relief

I have many reports of users of my lysine-based Meniere's treatment stating that, yes, right after starting the lysine symptoms can actually worsened; making it seem that instead of helping it was actually making things worse. It appears that many times when the herpes virus is first being suppressed by the lysine the virus spontaneously ramps up replication, causing even more of the viral inflammation that evokes the symptoms. But in almost all cases this is a very good sign. It indicates that the lysine is actually beginning to control the virus. After that initial distressing increase in symptoms the virus burns itself out. Symptoms subside (sometimes only slowly) to an eventual point where they no longer exist. Again, at the start of the lysine regimen, if things start getting worse, persist. The virus will eventually be adequately suppressed by the lysine. Herpes viruses cannot be strengthened by lysine. Lysine works to control them by being substituting for the amino acid arginine, in an enzyme required for herpes virus replication. Lysine, substituting for arginine, essentially poisons the required herpes replication enzyme. Without that enzyme herpes viruses can't replicate, so they won't be able to induce their typical inflammation, the root cause of about 85% of all Meniere's cases. --John of Ohio
yes the symptoms were worse at times initially but no doubt the JOH regimen works. You could start to feel better if you stick with it after 3-4 weeks, for some people it can take up to 6 months for the full benefit. Hang in there buddy
Hi Wes My story is very similar to yours: I was diagnosed 4 years ago and since then my hearing has got better and worse. I started the JOH regimen 3 months ago. Since then, the times when I hear well are worse. I hope the improvement will come. I wish you all the best.
Hi @John of Ohio, If we have the herpes virus would that mean we have a higher change of lysine working?
Yes, but not all Meniere's cases (symptoms) are caused by the inflammatory activities of a herpes virus infection. From the information I've gathered from many dozens of people who have elected to treat their Meniere's symptom with my lysine-based regimen, it appears that the regimen fails in about 15% of cases. --John of OHio
@John of Ohio Thank you for your reply. I ordered lysine and vitamin c but I’m very hesitant to get started with Ginkgo biloba Extract and Vinpocetine due to the possible side effects. Do you think that once I get the virus to stop replicating I would still experience symptoms of menieres? I’m just curious if only taking lysine will be effective. I saw in another post that you said that taking lysine was the most important but I’m desperate to stop these vertigo/dizzy symptoms asap and I’m unsure if just takin lysine will accomplish that. thank you
Lysine is the substance, molecule, that disrupts herpes virus replication. It gets inserted in an enzyme the virus uses to replicate and this changes the shape or activity of the enzyme so it can no longer be active. The enzyme is required for herpes virus replication. The vinpocetine and Ginko biloba don't directly work on the virus. They facilitate increased circulation through capillaries, thereby allowing the lysine to more effectively get in contact with the herpes viruses in the inner ear. The increased inner ear circulation can also help the circulatory system carry way accumulated fluids in the inner ear, which can be a cause of vertigo. Do an Internet check. There are very few side effects with either Ginkgo bioloba or vinpocetine (at the indicated dosages). --John of Ohio
Thank you @John of Ohio. I started taking lysine today 1000mg first thing in the morning and hours later it gave me diarrhea. Today is the first day I don’t have symptoms of vertigo/dizziness, should I continue with the lysine or wait until I get another herpes flare up or symptoms of vertigo/dizziness? My fear is that the lysine will continue to upset my stomach if I keep taking it today or even continue up to 3000mg.
