Hi, I am newly diagnosed with Meniere's after several tests. I am hoping to find support and tips for coping with this. Thanks.

Thank you. I am pretty new to all of this, although I've had symptoms for almost 4 years. Originally I only had attacks about once every 8-10 months. The most violent one occurred while my husband and I were at the movies watching a James Bond film. About a third of the way through the film I has an uneasy feeling and told my husband we had to leave. I had horrible vertigo and barely made it out of the theater before I began throwing up all over the parking lot. I told him to get me to the emergency room because I thought it was food poisoning. They checked me out, gave me a prescription for anti-nausea pills and sent me on way. So then I went to my family doctor who ordered an MRI. Because I also had hearing loss, she thought I might have an acoustic neuroma. My MRI cam back normal. My attacks increased so I went to an ENT who did some more test and rules everything else out and diagnosed me with Meniere's. I am retired which is a good thing and I have given up driving. I am still trying to learn as much as I can about Meniere's.

Jackie, I am sorry that you have been diagnosed with this darn thing. The only "positive" is that this thing goes into a hiatus as quickly as it is active. So you hopefully will have good days mixed in. Plenty of people have gotten more control of the vertigo attacks thru use of anti-virals.

    Good luck

    Hi Jackie,
So sorry you have to deal with this disease but it is great you found us. Look through the database http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?board=3.0
and old forums database http://www.menieres.org/forum/ , they have a wealth of information.
As nicmger said many of us found vertigo relief from antivirals. Some doctors believe MM is caused my a herpes virus that embedded itself on the nerve in the inner ear. AV's have worked for me for the last 18 months, no vertigo attacks, so far.
But it does not work for all, but it works for many.
