I was diagnosed with Meniere's last week but am unsure if the diagnosis is correct. The Dr. is suggesting a needle in my eardrum but I am hesitant. Can someone tell me if they experience the same symptoms? Two years ago I awoke with the room spinning and vomited a couple of times. Sounds like classic Meniere's but I haven't had this since. Since this attack I have been off-balance every day. I feel "tipsy" and have pressure around my head. It starts at the top of my head and progresses downwards to cover my head as the day goes on. It's a feeling like wearing a cap even though I am not. The dizziness worsens when I use the computer or experience movement such as being in a car or having many people move around (mall). There is a side-to-side rocking motion when I lie down. I have no problems with hearing and no pressure in my ears or sinuses. I fear the needle due to risk of possible hearing loss but I can't cope with being dizzy every day. I just read about a nutritional supplement program. I would appreciate any feedback from you as I try to sort this out. Sunny
Have You considered Migraine Associated Vertigo? Tell the doctor you need time to digest this if you are not yet comfortable with the diagnosis. What tests did the doctor do to rule out other diagnoses?
I haven't had any tests. The ENT Dr. listened to my story and based the diagnosis on what I told him about symptoms. I've had migraines for years but they are well controlled now through massage and acupuncture (1 - 2 a year and less severe). I am not familiar with migraine associated vertigo but will research it.
Hi Sunny check out the old forums database on MAV http://www.menieres.org/forum/index.php/topic,29072.0.html
Here is a short video about migraine associated vertigo and other causes of vertigo. http://www.masseyeandear.org/about-us/videos-and-podcasts/rauch/migraine-associated-dizziness/
I would agree to investigate other options. How long did your vertigo attack last? second/minutes/hours? Also, not just MAV but is it possible that you have allergy issues that impact your ears? Definitely get another opinion with tests - tests can't confirm that you have Menieres but can help rule out other options. Good luck.
My vertigo attack lasted about 2 hours at its worse and 6 before I felt comfortable walking without support. It was a couple of days before I felt steady enough to leave the house. The MAV video is interesting and sounds closer to my symptoms than Meniere's. Has anyone found an effective neuro otologist in Canada? I just heard about a Dr. Hain on another site. Does anyone know about him/her?
Sounds like you need to have some testing. I thought gradual hearing loss was one of the things that indicated MM.
