Try to stick with the proper dosing and protocol of acyclovir for Meniere's so you can make the best determination if it is helping or not. But happy to hear you did not get vertigo yesterday.

Yes, an edit button would be nice! And yes, preview also works.

For my longer posts I first typed them in word then copied and pasted.

Well the good news is we have this forum full of kind friends.

My next good news. This is second day on only acyclovir and the fullness is gone and .....NO VERTIGO!!!

The tinnitus is still loud. And when I put a plug in my ear or just plug with my finger the tinnitus is screaming. I can live with tinnitus. But, cannot stand the full-ness pressure or vertigo.

    Thanks again Friends

Great news! Remember setbacks are normal, look at the trend over time before you draw conclusions. Good luck!

Ray (Solari) took that option away awhile ago in the old forum. Too many people were abusing it (long story). His forum, his decision.

I do the same thing on long posts. This new forum has had a lot less drama than the I'd one had. It's been nice.

Bad news again. But, I have finally learned, and gotten through this thick skull of mine. No MORE Lysine for me.

I can't get a refill on acyclovir until Monday. Yesterday I had 6 800 mg pills, so two for fri, sat and sun. Last Wednesday I took three. Thursday I took three. No lysine and no vertigo. No vertigo Friday night (last night)

Friday, because I could only take two. I thought I would take a Lysine before going to bed. I woke up with vertigo.

A hard lesson. But, I definitely can't handle the lysine. It's off my list.

Glad you are finding out what is bringing it on. Everyone reacts differently to meds and supplements. Me personally I got very light headed from lysine and stopped after 1 pill. Is it possible to ask your doctor for a script for 800 mg 3 times a day? 2400mg is the usual starting dosage for acyclovir and MM. But I did start at 2000 mg (400 mg 5 times a day) because that's all my doctor would give me at that time and I did well on that starting dose.
But happy to hear that the acyclovir is controlling your vertigo so far.

Acyclovir is the best thing for me at this time.

Thanks for your support and suggestions. It's good for me to hear All experiences.

I am a lot more hopeful than I was a couple of months ago.

    Dang

Thursday and Friday when I didn't have vertigo I started my day off with a 5 mg of Valium along with acyclovir and I didn't have vertigo and my ear was pretty clear and like I said I was vertigo free. I had a couple of big Interviews on Thursday and couldn't chance having vertigo. The Valium worked. I started yesterday with Valium and acyclovir and was fine. Today I started with a cup of coffee and before I finished I got vertigo. I took acyclovir and a Valium and went to bed. Three hours later I'm still recovering. I can walk and eat but am very low in energy. Loud tinnitus which is typical

Going to try to see GP tomorrow and ask for more acyclovir, Valium and an MRI

Caffeine is an issue for many people. But remember, antivirals are not like taking an aspirin for a headache. They are more like an antibiotic. If you had pneumonia, you wouldn't expect your lungs to be clear the next day. If you had shingles or chicken pox, you wouldnt expect the rash and pain and itching to be gone the next day after you took an antiviral. Take a lot of time before you decide what works for you and what doesnt.

    Thanks Y'all

I'm going to stay on the aclyovir as it is the only thing that has relieved the full-ness pressure in my ear. But, so far with the valium 5 mg I am able to make it through a day without vertigo.

I can obviously commensurate with the awfulness of vertigo and how disabling it is. I have had it for 8 hours as I am sure you have as well. Good luck tomorrow in your quest to be functioning.

I agree with June there are some foods that trigger MM symptoms for some people, foods high in arginine, caffeine, and high amounts of sodium among other foods.

If you can read through this perspective by Dr Gacek, he gives the proper dosing and protocol for acyclovir for MM.
    http://www.mm3admin.co.za/documents/docmanager/6e64f7e1-715e-4fd6-8315-424683839664/00056616.pdf

use acyclovir tabs 800 mg t.i.d. for 3 weeks and reexamine. If there
is significant relief of vertigo, decrease to 800 mg b.i.d. for 3 weeks, then to 800 mg daily as a
    maintenance dose.

A great article although way over my head. So..... what is the difference between vertigo and the side effects of anti-virals-(acyclovir) and natural anti-virals.

My dizziness (loss of balance, nausea and vomiting) -only vomited once- can just be a side effect of these anti-virals.

My ear is a lot clearer and hearing is a lot better. Tinnitus still very loud ( which I can deal with)

Couldn't get appointment with Dr today. But, I have one 8 a.m. Tuesday.

I am going to try to ward off dizziness and nausea (Vertigo?) today with meclyzine.

I'm going to ask for an MRI tomorrow.

Santa, you are going to drive yourself crazy if you try to draw conclisions minute by minute. Dizziness is a side effect of every medicine. No medicine will work in one day. Pick one thing and give it a chance. Give your mind a break too.

I agree with June. Just trust the AV process and stick with it. It does take at least 3 months (sometimes) for the effect to kick in.

Vertigo is a sub-type of dizziness. Dizziness is experienced when you have difficulty maintaining stability or spatial perception. You could consider yourself "dizzy" when feeling lightheaded, for example.

Vertigo on the other hand requires your vision to spin, or to rotate violently. Vertigo is much more severe form of dizziness.

Nausea is simply the inclination to vomit. Vertigo will induce nausea, as can dizziness, though nausea isn't exclusive to vertiginous circumstances. Hence feeling nauseous due to dizziness doesn't imply the experience of vertigo.

You can also chew on some crystallized ginger for the nausea. It works for several of us here.

    Thanks again everyone

I'm only doing the meclizine because I have some and I don't have any diazepam (Valium)
I only have one 800 mg of acyclovir for today and I am saving it for after lunch.

I haven't taken any acyclovir today and I was feeling scared that I could have a vertigo flare up and wouldn't be able to work. I felt the vertigo coming on and took a meclizine 25 mg and it helped for about an hour and then I felt the vertigo coming on again and took another. Another hour vert coming on again and took another

Thurs, fri, sat I had taken a 5 mg of Valium in the morning and no vertigo the whole day
Sun I didn't have any Valium and I got vertigo within an hour of being awake. Called dr first thing this morning and couldn't get appointment until tomorrow at 8 am

I am going to ask for a three month supply of acyclovir and Valium
I know the acyclovir is helping my ear because it is clear now most of the time and the Valium is keeping me from having vertigo

Crystalzed ginger sounds worth checking into.

I also had blood work done last Friday and will discuss many things with dr

I must be having vertigo because I have been diagnosed with mm. When it flares up I can't turn my head left or right or up or down without feeling worse. Can't walk. Brain fog. Lasts for three hours. Totally wears me out

    Thanks again
