Nope, I just wanted to meet a Greek person and tell them their yogurt is out if this world delicious, especially with blueberries, bananas and strawberries in it. I do not recommend eating it after or right before having about 6 Jack and cokes, but I can't stop eating it. Good stuff that Greek Yogurt is!
Strained yogurt, or labna, isn't Greek, it's Turkish. The "Greek" in Greek yogurt is a marketing tool. "Greek" yogurt is simply strained yogurt, which has been available under the name Labna, an Arabic term, in middle-eastern markets for centuries. Even the word "yogurt" is Turkish, derived from the Turkish yoğurt.
On target! Isn't that the same as so many products on the market. I learned that Tabasco has been in the family for many generations. It's the same recipe since the beginning and run only be family members. Also, no other company can use the word Tabasco in their products. They may call it hot sauce or anything else but not that. They produce it on an island that has also been in the family for the same amount of time. They also have used the seeds from the original hot pepper plants. They even keep some seeds in a safe. Not Greek, but interesting just the same. I like Moussaka, Spanokopita, stuffed Greek leaves, Love Baklava, elephant ears, Gyros, and Kataiffi.
Oh by the way, your salads are the best. I love a good authentic Greek Salad. Did you know the Caesar salad originated in Mexico.
It's soooooooo good and low in fat and so/so on the calories, but worth it! http://www.benjerry.com/flavors/blueberry-vanilla-graham-greek-frozen-yogurt
It's actually very nice to have a mix of people on the forum. I liked it when we had a lot more people from other cultures and countries. I thrive when I am in an environment that has diversity. My 2 cents on Greek yogurt sold in the U.S. is that it is nowhere close to the yogurt sold in Greece or other Middle Eastern countries. Those who have been to those places and tasted the product will know what I mean. Fage 2% is probably the closest product to the original Greek yogurt. The rest of them just capitalize on the word "Greek" and stick it in front of everything from dog food to ice cream. It has nothing to do with the what Greek yogurt really tastes like, and by that I mean, the kind that people make in their homes back there.
Yep, agreed, authentic Greek food is awesome, especially when you're in Greece. We've yet to have a "bad" dining experience in Greece, regardless of what city were in.
Greece and Italy are both suing to retain all rights of product made in country of origin. It's very old news, which anyone that has the internet is well aware of, no new news.
