Has anyone had the shingle vaccine. I am going to get one soon. Do you think this could help tame the MM beast?

Somehow I recall reading that vaccine causing MM symptoms not helping, but I never had it so cannot speak from experience.

I had the vaccine several years ago. I've not had shingles, but neither has it helped the MM.

Acute tinnitus and permanent audiovestibular damage after hepatitis B vaccination.
    DeJonckere PH1, de Surgères GG.
    Author information
    Abstract
Yeast-derived recombinant DNA hepatitis B vaccine usage has been widely accepted since the early 1990s, especially for high-risk patients. Severe adverse effects have been reported infrequently. Certain neurological complications raise concern for hepatitis B vaccine: central nervous system demyelination, acute myelitis, acute cerebellar ataxia, and various peripheral mononeuropathies. Case reports on tinnitus, hearing loss, and vestibular damage are extremely scarce. The case presented here concerns a professionally active nurse, born in 1953, with a medical history of progressive renal failure and hemodialysis. Eleven hours after a second injection of the hepatitis B vaccine Engerix B, an acute left-sided tinnitus occurred and, a few hours later, severe left hearing loss and intense vertigo. Tinnitus and the sensation of vertigo regressed fairly quickly, but the hearing loss and the vestibular paresis were permanent. Increased interpeak intervals on auditory brain responses and lack of recruitment suggested that the lesion probably is located at the level of cranial nerve VIII. From a medicolegal point of view, this audiovestibular damage had to be considered an accident at work and not as an occupational disease.

Hi June, Thanks for asking. After further investigation I think it is a different vaccine. But, at least I know I won't be getting hepatitis B vaccine.

Regarding the shingles vaccine. When i first considered it, my family dr said she had no medical reason to say not to take it but given that we didnt really know what was at the root of my hearing problems (but we knew i respnded to antivirals) she thought better to leave well enough alone and not get it. At that time, i felt the same way. A few years later, my oto suggested i get the vaccine. I voiced my concerns and she said she thought better i get a small reaction from the vaccine than a full blown case of shingles as far as my ears were concerned. I got the vaccine with no reaction. And 15 months later i got shingles which i will tell you involves a good bit of pain. It could be i did not get the immunity hoped for because i waited til the end of the window agewise to get it (apparently it is less effective after a certain age). Or it could be that i just dont seem to be able to hold immunity to the various herpes viruses as my history with monos suggests. Or it could be it just didnt work because it doesnt always. But nothing bad came of the shot.

It is also possible i had a milder case of shingles because i had had the shot. If so, it was well worth it because it lasted over a month even with antivirals and it hurt, a lot.

I chose to get the shingles vaccine because the condition comes from the same virus as chicken pox, which I had as a child. Also, there were a lot of shingles cases occurring in people around me and I have seen firsthand what the virus can do. As it has already been stated on this forum, it is extremely painful. My husband's aunt was bedridden, as the virus had attacked her internal organs.

I'm going to get the shingles vaccine. I am in my 61st year of life. I've know a few people that have gotten it and it is not something I want to go through.

    http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/ip/providers/B71/2Zoster_Vaccine_Live.pdf

"Antiviral agents might interfere with replication of the live, VZV-based zoster vaccine. Persons taking chronic acyclovir, famciclovir, or valacyclovir should discontinue these medications at least 24 hours before administration of zoster vaccine, if possible. These medications should not be used for at least 14 days after vaccination."

Well then.........I will wait to get the vaccine until I have been on acyclovir for at least 3 months.

My ear is now on day 5 of being full. I started adding 1 lysine 500mg andf 1 lemon bioflav 1,000 mg to my 2,400 mg of acyclovir yesterday.

I know JOH suggests eating the lysine on an empty stomach but I can't because of heart burn, so I am taking it with food.

What's weird is my ear has been full since Sunday and I have not had one vertigo episode. I only get vertigo when my ear is clear.

Thanks Vicki for posting the info on vaccine
