    HI John,

I know you recommend taking the lysine on an empty stomach, but I have a bad flapper which allows stomach acids to come up into my esophagus.

I do take prevacid every day because I have gerds and baretts syndrome. But, even with the prevacid the lysine on empty stomach was causing acid burn.

If I take it after I eat my oat meal in the morning it doesn't burn. Actually, when I take it after any meal it doesn't burn.

Am I not getting any benefit from the lysine if I take it after a meal?

    Santa,

    Hard to tell.

If lysine is consumed with protein foods that also contain lysine (even in much smaller amounts), the understanding is that the lysine then gets incorporated into body proteins and does not circulate in the blood, where it can then attach to and interfere with herpes virus replication.

So, would lyine still be available and work if it were taken with, say, a fruit drink that had no protein (or lysine) in it? I don't know. May be something to try.

Is Lysine the best natural anti-viral one can use or purchase over the counter?

    Trisha,

It's pretty much the only over the counter substance that suppresses herpes viruses in the inner ear.

Are chewable lycine acceptable for those of us that have trouble swallowing pills?

Didn't know there were chewable lysine doses. If they get the lysine into the stomach (with no or few other side-ingredients), they should work. Be certain of the consumed dose of pure lysine.
