    UPS and DOWNS

    What a roller coaster ride.

Best week in a while because I have not had vertigo.

Worst week because my ear has been full, hearing very low, even though I am taking acyclovir 800mgs 3 X's per day, and since Wednesday or Thursday (brain fog ) can't remember which day I started taking 3,000 mgs of lysine on empty stomach, 3,000 mgs of lemon flavinoids, vinpocetine and pycnogenol.

I'm throwing everything at the virus. I'm thinking about throwing the kitchen sink at it next. hehehe

FANTASTIC! This alone is enough to call it the best week ever. May you enjoy many more.

Thanks Intrepid. But, it was this full pressure, clog ear feeling, and loss of hearing that started me on the antivirals. Now, I'm taking every antiviral under the sun. When the ear cleared there for awhile it gave me hope that I wasn't going deaf. Yes, the almost daily vertigo sucks, but I did enjoy the clear ear feeling. Now, it's been clogged full for 8 days.

Had an MRI on Friday. Fell asleep in the first 20 minutes session. The worst part was when they put an IV in my arm and the nurse was probing, and probing hurts. I get results sometime this week.

Here's to good health and hearing!!

    Santa,

Regarding the 3000 mg of lysine you are taking, in one full morning dose.

It would be more effective to take three 1000 mg doses at different times of the day (always at least 20 min before eating, or 2 hr after eating). A single 3000 mg slug does send a lot of lysine through the blood stream --- but it is cleared from the blood by the liver. This leaves the herpes viruses lysine-free for the greater parts of the day, allowing them to resume normal metabolic activity. By taking the lysine in three, spread-out doses, there is always some lysine circulating in the blood (before it is cleared by normal amino acid assimilation in the liver). This way, the herpes viruses are continually suppressed by the unceasing presence of the lysine.

Of course, herpes virus suppression doesn't happen in a day, a week, or often even in a month. Remember, viruses are not living organisms. They are packets of genetic material that can sit undisturbed for decades inside cells; then, they can somehow become activated and begin to chemically direct the host cell to use the virus's genetics to cause the cell to make and expell new virus particles (virions). That viral hijacking of the cell causes tissue inflammation which then leads to all of the symptoms of Meniere's.

The viral activity must be continually suppressed, with only short or no periods of chemical suppression (by lysine and/or antiherpetics).

If viruses were alive, as are bacteria, their metabolic or reproductive suppression by lysine or antiherpetics would bring prompt and complete relief, as in the case of antibiotics against vulnerable bacteria. With viruses, it takes much longer --- so persist.

    Thank you John.

My post was misleading. When I said " I started taking 3,000 mgs of lysine on empty stomach, 3,000 mgs of lemon flavinoids, vinpocetine and pycnogenol." I meant to say I am spreading it out to three times a day. As well as with the lemon flav., vinpocetine 10 mgs 3x's per day and 200 mgs of pycnogenol.

I find I don't get the stomach burn if I drink 40 ounces of water while taking the lysine.

I haven't had vertigo for 10 days, but my ear has been full and hearing feels like I have an ear plug in even when I don't have an ear plug in. I usually have an ear plug in because even though my hearing is worse everything is soooo much louder. I have the clanging pipes and hammers on anvils syndrome.

Hey have you checked with a doctor to see if you have fluid build up from allergies or an ear infection?

    Hi Intrepid,

I just called GP's office to see about getting results from an MRI I had last Friday. I also asked for a recommendation for an Allergist.

    Thank you

I sort of got results from my MRI. Unfortunately I got the results from a nurses aid from my GP's office. She said I don't have any neuromas (nerve tumors) or any sign of stroke or blockage, but it does say you have something going on in your vessels in your white matter. I said "White Matter!? What's that? Anything to do with my ear? and she said, "It's the white matter that surrounds your brain." She didn't say I should be worried about it or anything. I thought it was kind of funny!.

    White matter. Huh?

Well, I googled it and now it's not so funny anymore. I haven't had to read much about it. And, I'm not even sure if she knew how to read the report. I asked for my DR. but he is on vacation. First chance to see him will be next Thursday.

So, I called today and asked for one of the nurses to look over the report and call me if she thinks I should go see a neurologist.........still waiting for that call.

Growing old is not for sissies.

Good Health to Everyone and Have a Great Labor Day Weekend!! I know I will regardless of MM and vessel trouble in my white matter.

Santa usually the person who writes the MRI report gives diagnosis and recommendations at the end of it, ask for a copy to be faxed or emailed to you so you can see everything on it. It may explain the possibilities what this "white matter" means.

I read Dr Rauch said the brain is made up of grey matter and white matter and damage to white matter can be due to many things including migraines. But the nurse gave little indication if it is damage to the white matter or what. Try not to worry, which I know is difficult, until you either see the report and speak to your doctor.

I'm supposed to be getting an appointment with an allergist and a neurologist as soon as my GP's office can set up dates.

I'm going by my DR.s office tomorrow to get a copy of the MRI

Thanks Vicki I really appreciate your devotion to friends here on this forum

When my test indicated white matter, and I questioned my doctor about it, he said not to worry about it, so I haven't. In fact, I forgot about it until this posting.
