Hello all. I have just been dx with MD and am so confused. For four yrs I have had the tinnitus, ear fullness, hearing loss and dizziness. Last month out of nowhere 7 major drop attacks in 10 days including trips to the ER. After numerous dr visits, tests, etc they say menieres. Put me on dyazide and sent me on my way. I haven't been able to get out of bed for 5 weeks now. The worst is the constant nausea. I can't eat and have lost so much weight. Does anyone else have severe nausea? I feel like I am crawling deeper and deeper into a whole I will never get out of. Would love some support.
And you have it here. I am sorry about your plight. If look through the website you will find many different solutions for many different people. It is awful but people have found solutions.
Hello Holly, Glad you found us and sad you had to find us. I know that right now you feel like it's the end of the world but I assure you that it's not. There are many people who have learned to live with this disease and may more who have conquered it, I'm one of the latter as I have been Vertigo free for 15 years. I recommend that you look into all venues of treatment. Some treatments might work for you and some might not, I would consider John of Ohio's regimen, lot's of folks have had success with that and it's probably one of the easiest (relatively) to follow. Others have found relief with Antivirals, some of us have had to move into the realm of surgery. NOT the place to start, but some of us end up there. Try all non-invasive options before surgery!! Check the database http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?board=3.0, try and stay positive as many have said that this disease is stress related, (and I agree). Try not to get discouraged, as you will have many ups and downs. But please remember these few things, first of all there are treatments available, second, you are not alone we're here to help, third, many of us have conquered it, and if we can do it why not you?? Good Luck.
Hi Holly it's nice to meet you. I'm so sorry to hear you're not doing well though. If you've only been to see your family physician and/or an ENT I'd recommend trying to find a good Neurotologist (or OTO for short) in your area. An OTO specializes in inner ear disorders and is usually much more knowledgeable than an ENT especially where Meniere's Disease (MM) is concerned. He/she may want to run some additional tests just to confirm your diagnosis of MM. There are many other inner ear disorders that can mimic some of the symptoms of MM so thorough testing and a proper diagnosis are critical before seeking treatment. I know this is all very scary for you right now with being newly diagnosed but please try not to get too disheartened. We've all been exactly where you are right now and completely understand how frightening and confusing it can all be in the beginning. Try your best to stay strong and calm and be your own best advocate by reading up on all the different treatment options and then discussing them with your doctor. You'll find your way through this journey just like the rest of us dizzy folks have. Sending good thoughts and positive energy your way and wishing you all the best Holly. Lulu
I cant add any more except to say what the other posters say is true. There are treatments. If you need a new doctor, there are other specialists too. Dont think this is as good as it gets. There are many avenues to pursue. Please stick around here and keep us posted of your progress.
Hollyn, I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I relate to what you are saying about feeling like you are going deeper and deeper into a hole. Finding this place has really helped me find ways to get out, and I am hopeful that will be the case for you, too. So when you can, keep reading! Don't miss the old forum--there is tons of info there: http://www.menieres.org/forum/ If you haven't tried acupressure wrist bands for the nausea, I think they are worth a try. They really take the edge off for me and for a friend of mine who has worse nausea problems than I do (also due to inner ear issues). Here is a link: http://www.sea-band.com/
Hi Holly I just wanted to introduce myself and offer up my thoughts to you at this difficult time. I had a shunt surgery and so far so good.
