As it does every year the anniversary is almost upon us. Take some time to remember the day that changed us all. Take some time to remember all of the innocent lives lost. Take some time to remember all of the first responders who gave their lives trying to save others. Take some time to remember those people who are suffering illnesses due to being there. It's a humbling remembrance. It was a horrible day and the days that followed. It brought out the best of what our country is about. It's a day that will stay with me forever. I hope one day I'll get to go to NY and see the Memorial. I hope this thread isn't considered "political," as it isn't meant to be about politics, but more about the lives that were lost.
I watched the tribute today. It's amazing how many generations of families were affected. Sometimes we forget the people left behind. One of the leaders in Europe today said, " On that day and every anniversary, we are all Americans." That was moving. They interviewed people on the street and a few said, "It's been so long, many people don't pay much attention to it anymore." That is very, very sad. Our men and women fight for our country everyday and many lose their lives so we can live with the freedoms we have. It's very sad when it seems like so many have forgotten.
Being an ex-New Yorker I remember seeing many times the Twin Towers.I've never been in them but I always took it for granted that they'll always be here.Little did I realize that would not be the case. Now all I have are my memories.
Reported on the news this evening. Three firefighters who worked in the aftermath of 9/11 have passed away due to complications from all of that toxic waste they breathed in. All in the same week. That day has long lasting I'll effects on all first responders and civilians that donated their time and energy to the cause. It's so very sad.
