Awesome June. Its no secret im no big fan of doing cardio but I saw a study( wish i had bookmarked it) that showed that even 30 min a week of cardio results in some significant health returns. So, with that in mind im making sure I get that minimum amount on top of strength training.
I have had high fasting blood sugar for a long time, between 116 and 126. This time after walking 5 days a week for 8 months, it was 110. And that was with an admittedly crappy diet. My bp is also down significantly. I just walk a 20 min mile for an hour yet i get great benefits.
Good for you June. I'm actually walking to places I would usually take the car to. My body has adjusted nicely to the walking and I'm not breathing as heavily as when I started. Sometimes all it takes is a small thing to make a huge improvement.
I'm the opposite. I'm more cardio and less strength training. I just set up the DVD player in the home office and am going to start the DDP Yoga series. As far as the cardio, I find that it directly impacts the quality of my hearing. When I'm doing cardio regularly (I do 35 minutes on the elliptical 5 times a week), my hearing is markedly better than when I quit doing it. If vertigo isn't an issue, I can't recommend vigorous cardio to help with the MM symptoms enough.
After my shift today I stayed at the clinic and rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes. I try to do bike or treadmill at least 3 days a week
I love the cooler weather when I can walk later in the day. Dog and I are heading out in about an hour.
Exercise/gyms have helped me through some tough times in my life. It still does. Its great (for me) for stress, giving me focus, goal setting/accomplishing and even social needs. I met a girl at one long ago and dated her a long time. I have made good friends too. However, laying on the floor one day attempting to do the epley a guy came running over thinking i had passed out...heh. Also, i like being around other people who value exercise. I often go in feeling like i wont do any good and still frequently have a great workout. Yesterday i squatted 295 (thats good for me) and felt great, with no soreness today or the reoccurring sciatica that visits me.
I totally agree regarding exercise getting one through tough times!! When I had my worst moments of meniere's I continued to train for triathlons. I am convinced getting your heart pumping and blood moving brings on the"I can do" attitude we need to beat the disease! Keep going to the gym and keep on squatting
Let's try to keep it alive. I need to focus on my health and fitness. I am doing well in the exercise dept, not so well with my diet, big or small d. It's not a question of knowing but doing for me..
I've been so busy at work, I haven't contributed much. Probably won't be able to contribute much going forward anyway for the same reasons. But on the diet topic, I've actually been pretty good lately and I can tell because I'm constantly hungry! I've had a couple of days with no work-out and I can feel I need to go back. Maybe I'll hit some cardio tonight.
I think that hunger precedes a loss. Well, i guess that is self-evident but i mean i can follow a diet for a while and not feel hungry but right before the scale shows a loss, i sometimes get that sudden hunger.
About 7 years ago I decided to drop about 10 pounds, I had let it creep on over a few years. I did it by calorie counting and a food log. What i realized was that I had to be ok with feeling a little hungry at times. I think I had learned that it wasnt ok to feel the least bit hungry, as if it was unhealthy. I realized doing this diet that i had to learn that its ok and not really a big deal. I actually got used to it and used to eating less.
Friday will be lower body and shoulders day at the gym. Its deadlift day. I have been feeling good and strong lately. Especially for my age.
Yeah I hate putting in my age on those things...! Here is an interesting study on shoulder moves...http://www.acefitness.org/acefit/expert-insight-article/47/5001/dynamite-delts-ace-research-identifies-top/ I frequently hurt my shoulder/cuff. They say doing a press very wide with light weight builds stabilization. Plus do the rotator cuff moves which i often dont do...=( Later today i will do some lower body and shoulders.
I've come to realize, 1 day of slacking will easily offset a full week of a disciplined exercise regimen. But a full week of disciplined exercise will not necessarily offset 1 day of slacking... Over the last 30 days, I've missed 3. These 3 days have more than skewed the statistics... it's like starting over again.
