I have shallow ears and my ear canals are oddly shaped the combination of that and having tiny canals has been a nightmare with my aids. The receivers keep working out of the canals on my ears even to the degree of my aid falling out. I have to keep pushing them in every hour. They help a lot!! Anyway I have decided to get ear molds in hopes that that will help. My question is do they increase pressure on your ear drum?
Although I have aids for both ears, I had to have a mold for my right ear for some of the same reasons that you state. No, it does not increase pressure on my eardrum. Having a custom mold does cost more, but it helps.
My canals are also very tiny and "different" in some way (audiologist didn't quite say). But we played around with the different domes and the one I use now is very tiny. The first audiologist had tried a dome where there was also a piece of the "wire" that would curve inside the ear to help hold it in place. Sharing just in case your audiologist has not played around with all of the different potential options first - before needing to spend extra money.
I am going next month to see audiologist next month about a cross over. Can you give me a ballpark figure of how much theses things are going to cost? Don't know how affordable they are.
they are not affordable.... thankfully I didn't need a crossover. We tried many different ways. My ears just push them out, or I can't stand the feel of them.
My domes are the smallest 6mm called "power domes". They are very small so they don't irritate and bother my ears like the others. Also my canal is in and then immediately "up" and these are easy to insert and stay in; but also small so I can't really even feel them. And my hearing is better once switched to these domes. Glad the Costco model is working out for you! fortunately, for me, I was able to find one that worked better for me than the one I got fitted with at Costco - but at similar pricing. Surprising. Also got free lifetime batteries and domes - so that is good. My unit doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" but don't need those - just want to hear! ;D Good luck with continued improvement!
My mold was $2,000. And I don't get anything free, not even batteries. I do like the audiologist though, so I stay with him.
If you go to Costco you are looking at 1800 for two. Everywhere else I priced was 3000 or more for two.
I am needing a cross over...sends sounds to other ear. not sure if that will be more or less. I shall see
