Do any of you have experience with short vertigo episodes? For about the past month I have had almost one every day, very short - like 30 seconds or so - the room spins I get that awful feeling in my stomach, and then as quick as it came on its over. This is very different from menieres episodes that last for an hour or longer... But since they happen so frequently very disruptive! My ear is stuffy and I have a general feeling of being "off" most of the time, but the actual vertigo very short. I am waiting to get in to my oto to talk to them, went to my gen doctor they think it's inner ear but maybe not menieres. Gave me some nasal spray to try and clear my passages but that does not seem to have had effect. Anyone else have these, any advice on what this is, how to treat?
Alynn, check out the short videos on this page, especially cervical vertigo and bppv. http://www.masseyeandear.org/about-us/videos-and-podcasts/rauch/
Some people think these can signal the Menieres burning out.Other possibilities are Vestibular migraine which ususally has shorter faster spins. If you do a search on the old board you will find lots of threads with info on them. Some people call them hit and runs. if your docs have not ruled out Vestibular migraine it would be good to ask them about it. I would doubt that it is cervical vertigo as that is pretty rare and some docs even question it's validity.
I get those less now that I have Amber tinted glasses. I have Vestibular Migraines and Menieres....Lucky me. They certainly feel like hit and runs.
Try some of the exercises you can find online for benign positional vertigo. That can be separate from meniere's.
Cervical vertigo can cause these. There's a simple test for BPPV but you need to go to a doctor who uses the goggles because the direction your eyes beat is important. MAV can cause similar sensations, too.
