I have noticed that my affected MM ear has a low grade itchiness..some days more prevalent than others. Anybody else have this and have drawn conclusions what this particular issue might be indicative of-pointing to??

the virus caould be causing it or a fungal infection which is another cause for MM. See if any of this pertains to you:

    4) FUNGAL INFECTION
According to research done in Australia in 1996 (http://www.papadisc.com/MM_Nystatin.pdf), the yeast Candida albicans is an important opportunistic pathogen that has been associated with disease of the inner ear. Board member Joe Slater (screen name: PapaJoe) has compiled a list of scientific studies, showing the possibility of a fungal etiology for some vestibular disorders, here: http://www.papadisc.com/MM_Nystatin.pdf. His own Meniere's symptoms turned out to have been caused by a systemic candida infection.

I read the link. It is quite compelling. I wonder why folks around here tend to talk about the AVs more than nystatin. I wonder if I might have both. Sometimes my bad ear feels hot--which seems kind of fungal.

To go back to Holly's original question. I don't get itchiness. Sometimes I get a tickly feeling. When I get that I always think it might be the sensation of healing.

Thanks all for the inputs. In my research I did come across this article. Makes sense. Does anybody know what is the state of the art test for fungal infections?

I know there are some alternative ways to treat candida which usually diet starve out the fungus and taking supplemts that help extinquish it while you do this. Not fun. Did this with my natureopath 7 years ago. I wonder if the drugs have longer lasting affects?

Also, it seems as though one would not want to do the AV and JOH protocols plus allergy and fungal protocols all at the same time, right? One thing at a time to see what is working and what is not?

I think one at a time is best. I did however, get benefit from both allergy and antivirals.

My first attempt to get rid of the aural fullness (cochlear hydrops) was to do what piano joe suggests. I took fluconozol and acyclovir at the same time and after four days the ear went clear. Stayed clear about 4 days went full then clear again for 2 days. I didn't want to take both meds so I stopped the acyclovir and went with fluconozol (anti-fungal) plus concentrated garlic pills. And the ear never cleared. After 10 days I went to acyclovir.

After a few days on acyclovir ear went clear. Stayed clear for about 10 days. Then went full again. It was a love/hate relationship for 10 days. I loved having a clear ear, but I was having vertigo every or every other day. Now, it's been full for about four weeks. No vertigo.

Piano Joe mentioned JOH and that's how I found this forum.

I was hoping it was a fungus as that would be easier to cure/deal with. But, I don't think I have a fungus.

Sometimes my ear itches a little, but I clean out the wax and the itch is gone.

Do you wear an aid in that ear? It might be a reaction to the plastic in the ear mould.

No hearing aid so that one is out. My audiologist said my ear were too wax free and nothing comes on the QTip so I think that is out too. ;D

I am on day 10 of the Acyclovir and it has never been worse. I did stop the Dyazide when I started the AV and the dizziness was reduced significantly but the fullness, hearing loss and many kinds of tinnitus sounds are raging. Makes me want to try the Dyazide again :(

Is there a difference between fluconozol and Nystatin that Piano Joe mentions in his article?

Since July 1, 2014, my MD's had me on three long rounds of prendisone and antibiotics; I think that is a set-up for candida. Perhaps that is accelerating the syndrome faster than the AV's are pushing things under?

My life has all but stopped trying to get a handle on this. Waiting is not my strong suit.

Thanks for your care and inputs!
