Do they test your hearing to get a driver's license?

Sorry, I don't know anything about hearing aids, but I might be looking into it soon.

I sing at a lot of assisted living facilities and I asked some of the folks the other day about hearing aids. My question was, "So, when we die, we don't take our glasses or hearing aids with us to the grave or have them cremated with us, correct?" They said a lot of people donate their glasses and hearing aids to the Lion's Club.

Like I said I don't know anything about hearing aids--fittings, tunings, etc. I have heard the really good ones that can have certain frequencies turn up or down can cost around $3,000 for one.

Oh my, that's expensive! Friday I have an appointment to get one. I hope insurance helps cover some of it. I've been wondering affect a hearing aid would have with tinnitus. Make it worse? Better?

My father got some recently, and the audiologist let him try out a pair for many weeks first, even travel with them. I have the impression that is the norm, so at least you get to see if they work for you before you spend the $$. People that have them seem to love them.

The hearing aids haven't made any difference in the tinnitus. It's just as bad as ever. The only saving grace is that I can ignore the noise in my head when I'm concentrating on something else. I'm glad I got hearing aids; they have made a big difference, just as glasses make a difference when you need them to see better.

    Oh wow,

Thank you all for the responses, yeah I hope my insurance can cover it as well,

as for a hearing test with my license that isn't a real thing, however when I drive I find that I cant talk/listen to anyone at all.

I don't look forward to long and quiet drives haha

Argh really?? well that's a small kick in the face, I guess if I was to spend a bit of money I would be able to get a decent one, long as I can hear again i'm happy

I got two aids for 1800.00 from Costco. Now that they are set up properly I like them a lot. They do help with my tinnitus and a lot with my missing low tones. They also help with wind nausea and the change in temps going in door to out I don't get that dizzy rush. I hope this helps !

My advice is to get the best ones that you are able to afford. Check with your insurance as well as any government (provincial or state) funding.

Sorry this hit you so early in life. Without my hearing aids I am stuck with just phantom noise. With hearing aids I can
hear my wife, friends and family some of the time> Thanks to the VA I do have a good set of "phoneacs" but before, the VA
I got a good deal on line with a set of DIY ( not grat but they they helped).

I don't have a hearing aid and have not looked into one because the volume I hear at has improved greatly, but at times I have hearing distortion that I don't believe hearing aids can compensate well for. I am told that the digital aids can, but my "distortion" always seems to be changing and I would spend my life at the audiologist getting it calibrated.

As for your driving test, as long as your right ear is working, I think you are fine for the test. (Assuming you are in the US or Canada.)

I am deaf in my right ear, and if I had a driving test, I would have trouble hearing the examiner.

Getting my hearing aid finally was one of the best decisions that I made. While it doesn't "fix" the ringing in the ear the fact that I can hear other things seems to minimize the ringing a bit.

Costco has really good prices on hearing aids.

I got mine through my audiologist and it is considered an "entry level" aid but does what I need it to do. 3 month trial - if the first one had not worked she could switch out to try other models. My insurance did not cover any portion of it - but was able to get my Otican for about $1000 (similar to Costco). The Costco brand/item had more bells & whistles but again for what I needed, this one works great. My audiologist also offers free lifetime batteries and domes so that saves some money long term.

I would check it out and try some - you will get an understanding of what works for you - and if it is worth it to you. But definitely, definitely, definitely get quotes from a couple of different places because there is definitely places that mark these aids up so so much.

    Good luck

Well, today I went to my hearing aid appointment. There were different types of hearing aids. The hearing specialist helped me select one best for my needs. My hearing loss isn't severe yet; however, the tinnitus is. I'm glad I read on the posts of the costs, so I wasn't shocked when she told me it cost $2800. Thankfully I do have good insurance, and it will cover much of the cost. Eventually she said I'll need to get another one for my other ear. The hearing loss in that one isn't as bad as the other one.

The nurse said that the hearing aid will eliminate much of the tinnitus in my left ear. I am so excited about that. That alone is worth the cost.

I'm very happy it worked out for you!

Most insurance companies don't cover hearing aids you lucked out.

I can't wait to see you post after you've worn it awhile!

I got a hearing aid and this exact thing was a problem. It actually made my comprehension of what other people were saying worse and, in some circumstances, brought on vertigo. It added nothing to my life, but did remove a lot of money from my wallet. (Your mileage may vary, of course.)
