I live in the us and i understand our constitution and our rights and rose raised legitimate questions.
There are different points of view on these things among equally american, educated and loyal citizens. The second amendment is not the whole of the us constitution nor is it interpretted the same way by all legal scholars and few if any legal scholars interpret it to mean there can be no regulation of guns. There are many rights guaranteed to citizens that prevent the government from grabbing them up and sticking them in a tent too.

What bothers me about this discussion is that it has long ago left the real of seeking a solution and veered into who is a good american. How about courtesy and consideration for all points of view even ones we dont agree with and not challenging people's right to have an opinion because they dont live where we do.

The gun issue is a debate that is has been going on for decades and I wont get involved in and it . BUT having the gov't tell us what to eat and drink is dictatorial and has no place in America and to suggest people should want the gov't to control our eating habits goes against our rights and freedoms.

I'm sure there are plenty of obese people in Canada as well, does the Canadian gov't control their citizens eating habits? It just absurd for a gov't to tell people what they can eat or drink and even more absurd to think people would want their gov't to dictate this.

Back to ebola.. Thank Goodness the 5 year old boy in NYC tested negative for ebola so far but they are keeping him and running more tests to be sure, due to his symptoms. There is another suspected ebola case in Baltimore now, I hope that turns out negative as well.

Also the new CDC guidelines say it is easier to catch than thought you can catch ebola being 3 ft away if not in protective gear. I am glad they are updating their guidelines but its unnerving that they do not know many things about it.

I think the bigger issue after reading this entire thread is that it goes beyond Ebola, nobody trusts this government and administration to give them the truth. Ebola is just the latest issue in a long line of many issues where the truth has not been told and this should not be such an issue.

This too is a matter of opinion. Some think there should be no fda. Caveat emptor, no regulation and all that. Some think the food pyramid is tyranny, some think it is helpful. Some think the gov should offer nutritional guidance to people using food stamps only. Some think there should be no laws regarding tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and other drug use, some think some or all of these should be criminalized. Some think soda pop is poison to our systems and children should be protected from it, some think it is a nice thing. Some think parents should have absolute undisputed control over their children, some feel protection of children is a human right. These ARE all every much political opinions as anything and politics is the peaceful way we arrive at (temporary) agreement on how to handle them. But these are political topics. Pretty much anything people disagree on is a political issue. No less ebola. So maybe we should abandon the discussion here since there is sure to be fireworks.

I think it is correct to say many dont, but not nobody. I dont think there is any intent to mislead, i think there was sloppiness on the part of the cdc, the dallas hospital and probably others who didnt take their jobs seriously. Ticks me off royally. But i have no general mistrust of our society or our government.

There was and is intent to mislead pertaining to many other issues, that transpired before this, which lead to the majority of people's mistrust of this govt, and then when the ebola issue arose and the CDC was giving incorrect and contradictory info and bad advice about ebola (even if not intentional), it compounded it. Then throw in the 2 doctors that took risks and other screw ups, it perpetuated the mistrust that the majority have.

That is a matter of opinion. And it depends a lot on what new source people get their 'facts' from. It is, once again, politics. Many people feel that way when their party is out of power. Been so for about 225 years. Welcome to America. Messy but wonderful.

The truth should transcend politics. From Ebola, to Bengazi, to fast and furious, to IRS, to Obamacare fiasco, ISIS the list goes on and on, I can see why people have had enough.

All I want is the truth about Ebola and so far like everything else the story and facts have changed every time someone opens their mouth.

not opinion, facts, could you keep your own doctor as promised? NOPE, is insurance affordable now? NOPE the deductibles can bankrupt you. among many, many others, has nothing to do with party being out of office, don't assume I am a republican, I am a registered democrat my whole voting life, but like many of us democrats including the democratic candidates running for midterm elections who are distancing themselves from the present polices, we don't agree with many many things this govt did and how they did it and handled it...

but I am ot going to debate politics any further this thread is about ebola.

No, they are not facts, they are opinions. For most of us we kept our doctors, had lower costs etc. May not be true in your case. I have strong feelings about things too and imhave experiences to back them up. There are almost 320 million people in the country. But it IS politics. And in a few days, you can straighten it all out by voting. If the majority see it your way, all will be hunky dory. In to more years you will have a new prez. Nirvana. ;D remember, the people on the other side endured 8 years of GWB and they werent too thrilled about that. They would have plenty of 'facts' to throw as well. It is politics. Only democracy has such a messy system.

Rose, I see a civil discussion about Ebola where people have brought up other political issues and have veered from the intent of this thread by bringing into it other issues about government control.

June, the same goes for you, especially since you have such a mistrust and disagree with many government edicts.

    Everyone else,
I want to know everyday what new updates are being made about Ebola.
What concerns me most now is the fact that we are hearing the disease is spread easier than originally stated.
I also don't think its a great idea to bring non US citizens to the U.S. to be treated. Treat them where they live. Even if the sole purpose is to find out more about the disease. With current technology, it would be easy enough to follow.

Let's face it, Ebola has hit home. Citizens have every right to be concerned with so many conflicting reports from the CDC.
One of the nurses in Texas are expected to be released today after testing negative for the virus.
The young boy in NY did test negative but there are keeping him for more testing.

With Ebola, better safe than sorry.

Oh Rose...what to do with you? LOL! Apology accepted.

Yes, this has happened to so many threads where people go off topic and bring in issues that disrupt the original intent.
We all know Rays feeling about discussing politics so if it continues an important thread will be deleted or locked. Since this is just the beginning of what we know of this disease it is important to share information.
I realize it's a hot topic but if we only discuss Ebola related topics than we stay on track.
No need to bow out-just stay on topic without bringing Govt issues into it.

    Let's not be obtuse.

We are talking about Ebola. If the government regulations come up, it's still about Ebola.
It is not about guns, food restrictions, amendment rights, etc.

We are talking about a deadly disease.

Are you claiming that non-US citizens do not have the right to discuss Ebola on this forum?
