Does anyone here take ginger on a regular or even daily basis? I'm curious as to whether doing so would help prevent nausea during vertigo attacks. Also, how effective is it while having a vertigo attack? If it does suppress the nausea for you, does it do so fairly quickly?
Ginger Ale was my mother's prescription for a kid with a sour stomach back in the 50's. I've never tried it, but it would be worth a shot, I guess.
I have carried ginger--the candied type--in my purse since 2008! Someone here suggested it. I have to confess, I never tried it during a vertigo attack--because for one thing, you're already 'throwing up' and can't swallow water, let alone ginger! But, having said that--it helps my nausea that is daily and at times very intense--other times, not so bad. It will relieve it for a short time. So, I've bought it by the bagfull and keep a plastic bag with several pieces in my purse all the time. I now order it online from Puritan's pride. It's called 'candied ginger' and you do have to acquire a taste for it. Has lots of sugar on it, is chewy and quite strong with the ginger taste as it is made from pure ginger root. You can get the drops to just suck on--but those don't seem to help me. I've tried ginger drink--cooking and straining ginger, and brown sugar added. It was good--and helped some when I was really having bad daily nausea, but is 'alot of trouble' to make. Though I made a gallon at a time! Anyway, worth a try with the candied type. You might find it in a specialty type store, as I did for awhile, then they quit carrying it, so that is why I order it online now. Hope this helps.
