This is how medicine works, via animal studies and animal models.
If an animal does not get hydrops why is that? What antibodies do they have that prevents hydrops from developing and can those antibodies be transferred to humans.

I found it interesting in the fight against Ebola that the doctors were transferring and donating their blood and antibodies to those infected and thus cleared the virus and prevented the infections that kill so many with Ebola.

Thank you Vicki for your research.

This may well be answered by an immunologist or virologist or infectious disease doctor.

    Merry Christmas

Thanks Trisha for the info, all this is certaintly very interesting in many ways.

I understand but do not think it applies in this case. Ebola pathogen was isolated and known. Menieres, if there is one, is not.

The majority of diseases are species specific. Ebola is an outlier in that way.

I think Trisha was referring to the concept not in particular ebola its self.. I could be wrong its known to happen LOL

I was thinking that there is no evidence that i know of that there is a virus or bacterium specific to menieres so there is no way we could say that cows do or dont get menieres in that sense. I think any animal can get vertigo or deafness but there are many things that cause that. I dont think at this point there is any reason to think that bovine colostrum is specific to menieres. It just seems to make some people feel good all over just as steroids might.

    steroids suppress the immune system
the PRP in the bovine colostrum is said to modulate activity of the immune system, stimulating its activity when needed to fight off an infection or quelling its activity to prevent tissue damage once the infection has been defeated.

I found a study that did a long term efficacy and safety on it

you can download it here it was done in 2002
    http://www.annalsoftransplantation.com/download/index/idArt/4860
    Colostrinin® proline-rich polypeptide complex from
ovine colostrum – a long-term study of its efficacy
    in Alzheimer’s disease

The positive therapeutic effects of Colostrinin® we
observed in our previous study [12] prompted us to
    perform a long-term (16–28 months) open-label study
on the efficacy and safety of Colostrinin® in the treatment
of patients with mild to moderately severe AD.
The functional abilities of the patients were evaluated
using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) [13].

the study was referred to here
    http://www.zhion.com/Supplements/Colostrum.html
    Colostrum side effects
Colostrum appears to be safe, without serious side effects. But, long term use may induce mild side effects such as
anxiety, logorrhea, and insomnia, and subsided spontaneously within a short period of time (3-4 days). [12]

What does that mean exactly, modulate?

I was using steroids as an example of something that was curative (sometimes) but non specific. It doesnt matter the source of your problems, steroids are going to change things.

modulate means it control or has a controlling influence on the immunes system it if you need increase activity it'll increase it when our bodies need less it will decrease it. Its like an immune cop, steroids suppress the immune system and have awful side effects and its a short term fix.

suppressing the immune system is not a good thing it leaves you open to infections, I don't think there is any comparison between prednisone and bovine colostrum

so as I understand it if we grant MM is an immune dysfunction no matter what the specific cause of MM is, in theory something like the PRP in bovine colostrum should fix it because it influences the immune system when needed, which should take care of any immune disorder.

Sounds like magic. Most things dont 'know' which way you need to go, they just up or down activity.

bovine colostrum has studies dating way back to 1928 on pubmed. The thing I am wondering is if they knew about it back then and according to that pdf for hundreds of years why hasn't it been used to cure any immune diseases yet?

but The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted hyperimmune bovine colostrum “orphan drug status"
    hyperimmune bovine colostrum
A dietary supplement consisting of bovine colostrum, containing high titers of immunoglobulins (Igs), with immunostimulating and anti-infective activities. Hyperimmune bovine colostrum is harvested during the first days after calving from cows that have been inoculated repeatedly with specific pathogens during pregnancy. In addition to high titers of anti-pathogen specific antibodies, hyperimmune colostrum is also rich in other immune factors, proline-rich polypeptides (PRP), lactoferrin, glycoproteins, lactalbumins, cytokines, growth factors, vitamins, and minerals. This dietary supplement may exhbit anti-infective activity in immunocompromised patients. Check for active clinical trials or closed clinical trials using this agent. (NCI Thesaurus)

I believe colostrum is great for preventing infection but does it have the ability to clear infections once you have them, that is what I want to research.

    Happy Christmas

that's what they are all saying especially the patent I linked to, it can clear all those diseases, time will tell.

The company that got the patent already has a product out with travelers diarrhea.

Reduces the risk of Travellers’ Diarrhea.

•Reduces the symptoms of minor gastrointestinal disorders

Essentially, Travelan contains the natural ingredient bovine colostrum that is harvested from Australian dairy cows immunised with a proprietary ETEC vaccine. As a result their colostrum contains high levels of antibodies against the common strains of ETEC bacteria. These antibodies bind to ETEC bacteria, blocking them from attaching to the epithelial cells in the gastrointestinal tract and thereby neutralising their ability to cause Travellers’ Diarrhea and its associated symptoms.

Travelan has undergone a number of independent double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trials in Europe and the USA. The trials showed protection of more than 90% against infection with the type of E.coli that causes TD. In addition, trials showed a significant reduction in abdominal cramps and stomach pain compared to those who did not receive Travelan. There were no reported side effects in the clinical trials.1

from what I gather the bovine colostrum needs have specific antibodies for the specific disease it supposed to address.

I am guessing it doesnt work *long term* as well as hoped and that is why it is not used more.

I would think the growth factor part might make a person feel young like prednisone does me until it makes me feel awful when i go off it. But since MM doesnt have a specific pathogen i dont see how the cow can be producing antibodies against it. But if you have something that clears up a lot of misc things that alone may take enough of a load off the immune system to reduce mm or any other immune disorder problem symptoms. Like allergy shots do. A lot of things can make a person feel good for a short time. Harder to come up with a permanent fix.

I can see colostrum being long term, one of the studies tested its safety and efficacy for 28 months.

its very different than steroids which leave you open to infection and diseases because it suppresses the immune system its mechanism is very different that colostrum which regulates the immune system. It allows it work the way it is supposed to not forcing it do something its not supposed to like steroids do.

another point is the hyperimmune bovine colostrum is when cows are immunized with a vaccine against whatever disease they want it to work on. from how I understand it, the immunized cow produces the colostrum that has the PRP which modulates the immune system plus has antibodies from the cow being immunized against whatever disease they want to treat.
