Half of the upper floor of our house lost electricity last night. Called police first, no one else had an outage. Called electric company, they came and checked outside and told us it was an internal problem. Called electrician last night and he said they'd be here first thing in the morning. When I got up in the morning the power was all working again, so I cancelled the appointment. At 1:00 this afternoon it went out again. I called back and the electrician said they'd be here as soon as they finished the job they were on. They came at 3:00. Checked outside and then 3 outlets inside and the breaker box. They found that one outlet was burning out. The inside plastic had melted and could very well have started a fire. They switched out the outlet and no more problems. When I asked how much I owed, he said No Charge and a Happy Holiday Season to you and your family. I actually got tears in my eyes. I gave him a tray of cookies and he said he'd gladly accept that. I'm so glad we replaced two light fixtures in the last month that gave us this wonderful electrician. I'm humbled by his generosity. Please share any stories you have of others giving or of you giving to others.
Had a friend/co- worker who took his whole family to Alaska on a massive road trip. He used a digital video handheld (not a go-pro but a super cheap model) and used that to film his kids swimming in hot springs @ 30 degrees, brown bears on the side of the road and glacial termini. By the time he got back it had failed. The entire SD card was filled and it didn't know enough to stop writing to the final sectors (a common thing with cheaper cameras) He took his camera to Geek Squad and they quoted him $850 TO START for a Level II recovery. I told him I'd do it for a Target Gift Card for whatever he thought it was worth. Was able to recover most of the videos and pictures off of it which took about 2 days of slowly reading and recompiling using special data recovery software (the same stuff the government/mil uses, not consumer garbage) It was a great experience because I always wanted to go and when I recovered the video clips one by one it was sort of like I was taking the trip myself.
I was wondering where my cookies were and why they have not arrived yet. The dam electrician got them. Last year I decided to have a fundraiser, I gave away several very nice baseball cards and a week at the lake house up on Lake Keowee in theBlueRidge Mountains in Seneca South Carolina. It was silent bidding for all things and we were able to raise enough money to purchase nice hearing aids for 6 people with Ménière's disease. 5 people in threa Atlanta support group got them and one member if this forum who shall remain nameless. I want my cookies beautiful!
RV and BD This is exactly what I was hoping for with this thread. These are all wonderful, touching stories. Sometimes we forget the goodness the world has to offer. BD, I know the truth in what you say you did as I've always been in touch with you and even the recipient who shall remain nameless.mthe fact that these things you do are not bragged about is what makes you so special. I'm also aware of the other things you've done for members here. Good times aside, you are a wonderful man with a generous spirit and I consider myself fortunate to be called a friend by you. The cookies were just made yesterday, give me time!
RVideo What pleased me about your story was that in giving you also received. Your talent gave people images that they will treasure forever. Seeing those images brought you to a place you only dreamed about. I'm thinking that giving is a better feeling than receiving.
