Getting ready for New Years Eve party. Airing out spare rooms. Changing linens. Pulling out air mattresses. Airing out extra blankets. I think I'm good with that part of it.
My project for the week was to clean up the bookcases. I went in a looked at them...and said to myself, "too much mental work with this." It's not happening today.
Three bookcases down, one to go. Getting rid of three authors, too. Feels good to do something you said you were going to do!
Next project...clean out the spare room we've been using for storage and getting a set of bunk beds for the grandsons. Planning a fun-filled weekend for them. They're coming this Friday and staying until Sunday!! So happy!!
*is laughing I wasn't anticipating the hound. Possible caption? 'Wat wast, a worvy wackdrop to wrioritise the weauty.'
So cute, Rose. Those are the same types of colors I like to work with. I'm inspired and I'm off to work on the quilt I started last summer. Maybe I can keep at it until it's finished.
Yes, Rose, it's the owl quilt. I just really need to get it done so I can move on to something else. I already have the small blocks sewn into rows. Tomorrow I'm going to get the rows sewn together. At least that's the plan. I'm still hand stitching around the owls, leaves, etc. I was doing that a few weeks ago when I developed the health problems. Didn't get back to it until today. Feels good to be doing something worthwhile.
Rose, this quilt is just fabulous! If it's not perfect, you're the only one who will ever know that. You sure have a talent for the machine quilting and doing all of this quilting sure shows your patience. You're creating a masterpiece. I love it.
I'm still cutting up old blue jeans into squares for my rag quilts. It takes me so long to get things done because I can't seem to keep at one thing for too long. I never used to be like that. I've also been doing some scrapbooking. I'm going to make a fairy garden in a whisky barrel that has been cut in half lengthwise. I've been researching miniature plants and trying to plan it all out.
I'm excited about planting the fairy garden. I'll look for a miniature dianthus. I have a few things for the garden, but I need to make a trip to Hobby Lobby to see what they have. Oh, I don't even want to talk about scrapbooking supplies. I have more than I will ever use in my lifetime. Scrapbook paper is, to a scrapbooker, what fabric is to a quilter. You can never get enough and when you see something you like you just have to have it, along with all the coordinating pieces. Last year a major scrap book store in the area had a close out sale. I had a $50 gift card and I got so much stuff I could probably open up a mini store. I've only made rag quilts with flannel on both sides and I did use batting. I'm not planning to use any batting in the blue jean quilts because, yes, I think the quilt will already be very heavy. I'm planning to machine stitch something on each square, like an X from corner to corner or a star the size of the block, to hold the squares together. I went last week to the nearest quilting store and they didn't have much in the line of flannel like they did a couple of months ago. Wrong time of year, I guess. I'm just going to wait until I get someplace to find some really yummy flannels. I have so many things I want to accomplish. I will never run out of things to do.
On a related, however overscaled, possibly inspiring note, I saw a Eucalyptus deglupta, or Rainbow Gum, for the first time yesterday afternoon. If anyone intends to create fairy forest - presumably in the northern hemisphere - these absolutely beautiful trees are a must.
Oh, my, Rose. Another beauty, sewn to perfection. I don't know about the quilting. I'm going to stare at it some more when I have the time. ;D
I don't have it done yet. It's been raining too much. I got lots of Fairy Garden plants, including a little hosta called Mouse Ears. It only gets about three inches tall. I haven't found a miniature dianthus, yet, but I'm still going to look for one. When I get it looking decent, I'll try to post a picture. It's going to be more like a fairy farm. I got the barn and some other pieces of the collection and will add to it throughout the summer. Next, I'm going to get the rabbit hutch and the chicken coop. The tire swing would fit right in. Hope you don't mind if I steal your DIL's idea.
What did you decide on for the quilting? It's good you're keeping busy with your quilts and reading. Takes your mind off other things, even if it's for just a short while. I don't have a wishing well, but that's a good suggestion. I saw a rake, shovel and hoe, but got busy looking at other things and came away without them. That set will be a must. I so admire your quilting abilities. I'm not jealous, though, or obsessed.
