We have a big storm coming to our area, and I am feeling it. This is in spite of my doing so well lately with Valacyclovir and currently being on the high dose (3gr/day). My ear has been more stuffy. I've also had some waves of dizziness. I also just got back from my triumphant big driving trip, so these symptoms could possibly be aftereffects of the trip. I wanted to get a bit more clarity about MM and weather. If you are up for answering these questions I'd appreciate it: * Do you notice your MM symptoms getting worse when bad weather comes? If so... * Which symptoms get worse? Do any get better? * When does it start and end in relation to when the storm is present? * Have you found anything that helps? If you are taking AVs do you increase the dose? Thanks!
we have a storm front coming any minute here now and my tinnitus is louder and my ear feels somewhat deaf atm and sometimes a woozy feeling at times but not always. I also get very sleepy before any precipitation which I am right now my eyes are half closed typing this, its weird its like a sleep aid for me lol Once it starts raining or snowing I feel alert and awake, the sleepiness goes away. I don't recall when my ear feels as usual but will take note and let you know. I do not increase my antivirals unless I feel a pending vertigo attack which I don't think I ever felt while on antivirals from weather. For me vertigo is the symptom I am scared to death of and dont want in any way shape or form, so the ringing and fullness is just an annoyance to me. I can live with it until it passes.
I get significant increase in ear pressure and ringing for sure; vertigo is not a given but the other two are.
I'm not affected by weather systems. On a side note, though, I've noticed many here experience episodes of vertigo, or an increase in symptom severity while showering. If any members here experience difficulty while showering & are also affected predominantly by low pressure weather systems, opposed to high pressure systems, it may be worth considering lowering the temperature of your showers – as the hotter the shower, the greater the vortex/low pressure system generated within your shower recess becomes.
I have noticed that my symptoms are up in the past week…fullness, tinnitus, roaring, clicking, headache. I am in the same general weather pattern as bytheBay. I assume that some of the distress is from the barometric pressure fluctuations and some from a feeling of a raspy throat and not watching every little thing I eat for the arginine levels. Still able to get a lot done but not feeling so free as I was before. Still on the 1 gmx3/day valacyclovir. Been over a month. Not wanting to test lowering the dose this time of year.
That is for the reason I have rarely used the heater for my shower in the past 2 months even though it is cold.
Another week goes by with the rains coming and going. My MM symptoms are at really bad with my affected ear feeling like I have an ear ache. Wah wah way! Still on the high does of valacyclovir and JOH regimen. I have an appointment with a more experienced MD tomorrow afternoon. I am also scheduled for a round of allergy tests to see how this might be playing in. Big holiday week upcoming with lots of plans including a birthday 12-26. Crossing my fingers that I can play in grand style and not have to default to Netflix and damage control :'( Hope you all of rocking the Holiday!
I hope the appointment goes really well for you. I'd love to hear how it goes. Yikes about the ear ache feeling. If I put a hot wash cloth right in front of my ear, on my face, I find that very soothing and I think it is good to bring blood to the area. Sometimes I do that with my tea mug, too.
Well the weather cleared a couple of days after I wrote and so has my ear…not all the way but the fullness and roaring has which is what drives me the maddest. The appointment with the new ENT last week was really helpful. She has such a wider knowledge base than my former ENT and far more willing to wiggle around with the AV's since she gets the fluctuation cycles-triggers etc and trust her patients to moniter themselves vs a fixed protocol. She is also challenging my MM diagnosis and suspects MAV and EPPV since I have never had no uncontrollable vertigo. But from a western medical perspective, she isn't suggesting much difference in treatment. She did however make a very strong point of getting the migraine syndrome under control as a next priority because without the head pain, I can keep going which she said is essential at retraining my brian off of the focus on the ear distress and keep me focused on things that engage my energy. This has been by lived experience too over the last 90 days. I researchd all the migraine preventive drugs and each on has these most common side affects: Dizziness, drowsiness, depression, and headache. I just cannt see the logic in putting my body through this kind of distress just after beginning to get back into life. Ugh. Been 90% clean on migraine diet not noticing that anything really triggers or doesn't the head and ear distress. Rain is a far larger influence there which I cannot control. Have Sumatriptan which works adding a bit of Norcoll if things are shutting me down. The Sumatriptan causes my occipital, neck and shoulder to get very tight and sore so don't want to use too much of that. Then there is the issue of rebound headaches. Speaking with my PCP about meds today at 4:40. Anybody already gone through this drill? Happy New Year!
I know many use butterbur (herb) instead of migraine meds, check the mav forums they should have helpful info there mvertigo.org glad you have a dr now that's more open to things and has more knowledge on the matter.
Yes I am on Butterbar twice a day now for 4 months and B-2 twice a day which has also been discoverd to be affective with migraines. I am def doing better with these as JOH regimen and valacyclovir. My new ENT wants to take it further :'(
I'm so glad that appointment went well for you. How wild that she is questioning the diagnosis. Let us know what you discover.
It seems that the symptoms are the same, she just is calling it something else. No diff in treatment recommendations except a migraine prevention drug. No to positive about it really. Will let you know if something shifts.
Weather "always" affects my MM. If there's a storm coming, high humidity, etc.........my ears get very full......feel dizzy, and just plain "blah" Changes in air pressure always affect me.
Barometric pressure changes always make my ears full. Taking an extra lemon bio helps reduce the fullness. I don't like spring storm season. I'm a dizzy weatherman!
That's great to know that an extra lemon bio helps. I just started taking 1 per day, and it really seems to have an effect in the hours after I take it. I will probably start taking more soon.
I regularly take one lemon bio twice a day. I take a booster in the afternoon if I need one. That helps me stay pretty even through out the day. Since starting lemon bios, I can tolerate a higher intake of sodium in moderation.
For those unfamiliar with lemon bioflavonoids (and which ones actually work), read all of this closely: http://www.zoominternet.net/~kcshop/JOH.pdf --John of Ohio
