I've been using vallium as a control medication, but it doesn't seem to do anything. My last attack lasted for 12 hours despite being able to keep 2 doses of vallium down. I took them 6 hours apart. It seems to work well if I'm in the ER and take in via IV. But when it's a pill, it doesn't seem to do much. Are there better options for control medications when vallium doesn't work? What do you guys use?

Does Ativan knock you out? I need to find something that will halt the vertigo but not leave me useless/passed out/unconscious. I have young kids depending on me.

I am in the UK and when I was suffering badly I used to take buccastem which is I suppose is similar to valium. Its taken under the gum to dissolve and worked well for me.

I have a prescription for 1mg Ativan - placed under the tongue. It stops the attack typically within 30min-1hr.

PleaseNoDizzy - I don't think I can honestly say if the Ativan knocks me out, reason is that the attacks themselves exhaust me and knock me out when finally attack stops (and that is without the Ativan). So the fact that I fall asleep for a couple of hours could be the Ativan but most likely is the attack itself that wears me out.
