I was recently prescribed Betahistine for my MM and have just started taking it today (3-5-15). Has anyone had any positive or negative results with this medication?

I've been on 16 mg 3xs a day for about eight years. I feel it helps me. I wish you some relief on this medication.

Believe that it is first protocol in other countries and many find good relief with it. Good luck.

I take 3 x 48mg/day since around 6 months and I think it helps, a kind of "cutting if the edges" ;)

Been on 16 mg's three times a day and I think it helps. Still fluctuating though which I think is to be expected. Best of luck!

I was first diagnosed with Meniere's while traveling in India in December, after 2 drop attacks in 6 weeks. The ENT there put me on betahistine and it seemed to work like a charm with no side effects. Or, maybe, I was just lucky. I was on it only 3 weeks or so, until I got home to the U.S. and my local ENT pooh-poohed betahistine & took me off it, partly because he's convinced it's worthless (I beg to differ) and also because it's not as readily available here. Instead, he put me on a diuretic that gave me some pretty ugly side effects, which the local doc wasn't the least bit concerned about. I've been struggling ever since. I'll be seeing a neurotologist soon, and I hope he's a better listener and more open minded about various treatment options. I would love a chance to try betahistine longer term.

Wonder if the doctor in India would continue to prescribe for you until you can find a good doctor here that will listen?

rjsjmarv: The key to a successful Betahistine regimen is the dosage. ‘High-Dosage’ is the key.
Please see other posts on this board by myself, and others, as to the treatment and recommendations/suggestions on how best to present this information to your doctor.
    Good luck, rjsjmarv.

I have been on betahistine now for 60 days…16mgx3/day. My tinnitus is at all all time high. I wonder if this is from the drug. Any comments?

BTW, I got my prescription from Dr Derebery at the House Ear Clinic in LA where there was a conpounding pharmacy on site. Later I got the script through Canada Drugs for 1/3 the cost. Maybe you can get you Indian MD to prescribe via email through that pharmacy...

When my tinnitus tries to make a comeback, I've increased the SERC dosage from 32mg/3x daily (my usual dosage), to 96mg/3x daily. However, it usually only takes 1 - 3 doses, at this level, for the beast to retreat back into its cage.

    Good luck, Hollyflo.

Decided to quit it and go back to the valacyclovir from the famvir and see what happens..thanks for the suggestion about an increase. I wonder what Derebery would say about that...
