Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site. I couldn't sleep...tossing and turning, wondering how to deal with this meniere's while I'm taking courses, so I went online and found this site. The first week of the course was really rough. Two of my triggers are reading and being on the computer, go figure! About 2 hours of either triggers a meniere's episode. It takes so much out me that I'm down for 2 days. And I have 8 weeks of the course left. I've been doing my best living with this going on 21 years. I had the gentamicin treatment. It is what it is. I'm not interested in treatments. I just need to talk where someone gets it...or can sit with me while I have a good cry. I have a busy day....should try to sleep. Hope you have a good day. Anna
For what it's worth, at certain times when my Meniere's is closer to the "tipping point" I do notice that being in front of the computer can start to make me feel off/the start of vertigo. In those particular instances, if I get up to walk around a little bit - I can USUALLY (not always) head it off at the pass. Perhaps try (when possible) to take breaks from the computer & reading and simply walk/change position. Good luck with your classes. You have been living with this thing for 21 years so I have no doubt that you will beat it during your classes too!
I also have had two of my worst bouts with vertigo when sitting at computer. It was all I could do to stumble to my bed. Have you tried meclizine to cut down on the severity of vertigo. I have found a new supplement which is working amazingly for me. I haven't had vertigo or dizzies for three weeks. You can read about it in the post, "beginning of the End"
You have come to the right place Anna. Most of us have walked in your shoes. We have broad shoulders for you to lean on .
Thank you nicmger for the reminder. If the vertigo creeps up, I can usually prevent a full blown episode. I have my computer's Task Scheduler set with a message to "Stand up! Stretch. Move and walk around. Look outside or Go for a walk!" I love my task scheduler! Thanks Santa - I never heard of meclizine, but will ask my doctor. I'm so sensitive to pharmaceuticals that the doctors are hesitant to experiment, I'm not though if it will improve things. Your suggestion made me think of my serc, which I'll start today - my allergies are out of control this year. I heard 2015 is suppose to be the worst allergy season in five years! Thank you redwing1951 for your words of comfort. I'm looking forward to being here Hugs to Everyone! I'm back to the books...
Anna, Your going to make it and do great!!!! Nice to meet you, lots lots of support here from people who understand. Ask lots of questions, make yourself at home
Well... I got my first mark and it's low, not a fail...it's the first low mark I ever got. I have mixed feelings about it...concerned about my GPA... not even chocolate can make me feel better (half smile) ...oh well, watch a movie then sleep. Definitely going for a gentle hike in the morning. I'm doing my best. I could use some support that it isn't as bad I think it is.
Hi Anna, You might want to check out our database for MAV-Migraine associated vertigo, (a headache isn't not required) Here is the link: http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?topic=32.0 many of us with MM also have MAV and computers are a known trigger for MAV. I too am medication sensitive and have out of control allergies. Allergies are a big trigger for MM. I have had great success with antivirals for MM. For MAV I am able to control it with avoiding food triggers. Good luck! and keep us posted.
Hi Anna, I was also going to suggest you look into MAV. I also have both MM and MAV. Eyestrain is a major trigger of my MAV episodes and that often happens at the computer. You did find a great place! Good wishes in finding solutions that help.
Anna, there are going to be days when it is horrible but there are going to be good days too. On the good days you need to take advantage of all the things you can do. Exercise is a critical part of conquering this monster. Get outside and hike, keep moving, breath the fresh air. On the rough days get as much rest as you can. Be kind to yourself, it is ok to feel down but don't let it consume you. You have lived with this for 21 years? Keep on living. Rest, Exercise, Eat Healthy. Do you do yoga? It helps. I hope you have a better tomorrow.
