I've now had a second ENT tell me no on the anti-virals. I have a call into Dr. Gacek's office at UMass, asking if he knows of any doctors in the Colorado Springs/Denver area who are familiar with his protocol. What other kinds of doctors might I approach on this subject? Is there some kind of doctor who is inherently more open to this kind of research? One of the ENTs won't even prescribe control medication. Like, I asked for ativan, and he said no. He only prescribes diuretics. Or performs surgery. I am so mad right now. The vertigo is getting worse and I am becoming desperate. I've now had 3 attacks in the last 4 days. I've lost another 5 freaking pounds. I'm close to having to ask my employer about short term disability.
I know your frustration. I asked about antivirals but was repeatedly refused. It may have been too late anyway but I would like to have tried them. My only suggestion would be to ask if there are people who have bought them on line and had success doing so.
Do you mean folks buying the meds without a prescription? Do such people exist around here? Where did they buy them?
So sorry to hear about the 3 attacks in 4 days. That sounds awful. I'm sure it's hard enough to talk to even one doctor with that going on. Have you showed the doctors Dr. Gacek's paper (http://www.mm3admin.co.za/documents/docmanager/6e64f7e1-715e-4fd6-8315-424683839664/00056616.pdf, treatment recommendations start on p. 103)? That made the difference for my ENT. I agree, just keep trying doctors until you find one. So many of us have, you will find one eventually. I know that at least some Naturopaths can prescribe medication, because some are MDs or RNs as well, so just call their offices and ask. Be sure to show or send the paper.
Good lord I want that to be my story. lol I'm close to pulling the gent trigger right now if I can't find someone to freaking prescribe the meds. I can't keep living this way.
That is exactly what I showed 2 seperate ENTs, and one who specializes in inner ear stuff and balance disorders. The first told me it was "interesting" but that he "didn't know enough about it". Huh? Is he alergic to reading now that he has graduated med school? The second told me it wouldn't help me but didn't offer a reason why. The only reason I will ever even darken his doorstep again is to pick up my chart for when I move on to the next doctor. And get this. I also asked this doctor for a different control medication as the valium(which I got from my previous doc), even when I can metabolize it leaves me swinging for hours. His response... he doesn't prescribe control medications. He ONLY prescribes diuretics. And when they fail. Surgery or gent. Huh? Seriously? So it doesn't seem to bother him that I have marathon sessions of vomiting and vertigo. And his cart blanche answer is to destroy my ear. I did ask a legitamate question at that point. I asked what his basis was for claiming that I am NOT one of the 90% of patients that Dr. Gacek claims can be helped by anti-virals. I don't expect to hear from him again because he obviously doesn't have a reason. He just wants his surgical fees. I was so appalled by all this that I actually asked the poor nurse on the phone (cause the doctor didn't have the stones to call me himself) how she can work for a man like this? I do feel bad about that. She's just the poor messenger. Perhaps I'll call her back and appologize for how I spoke to her but tell her that there are many folks out there being helped with this disease without the radical, non-harmful measures her boss resorts to. Sigh. I hate this damned disease. And so many doctors make matter worse by being closed minded.
Yes you can buy them online but if I was doing that I would want a testimonial from someone who has already done that. At the time when I was suffering and losing my hearing I was going to go to Italy or Spain where they are sold over the counter.
