I'm currently researching for the best anti inflammation diets for those of us with this disease. If you are on an anti inflammation diet and it is working for you, I would like to know what diet you follow. I'm assuming that reducing the inflammation in the body will dramatically reduce the symptoms this disease causes. TIA Mike

Reducing inflammation, IMO, will most likely do what you say. The question is whether or not you will get that effect in sufficient quantities to impact THIS disease via diet alone. If the inflammation in the inner ear is caused by the herpes virus, as many here believe, then diet alone probably isn't going to get you there. It might help, but the inflammation isn't really going anywhere until the source of the inflammation is dealt with. Many have gotten relief from assuming that Herpes is the cause. Others candida. Yet others, vitamin deficiencies. Spinal alignment problems. TMJ. Etc. This is just uneducated musing on my part, but I would be surprised if an anti inflammation diet put this disease into remission all by itself. Course, I myself made DRAMATIC dietary changes in my quest for health. My diet is predominantly meat, vegetables, fruit and sufficient amounts of starches to stop weight loss. I've lost over 75LBS in the last 6-7 months because of this disease and my diet is very healthy, though my ears are still not working very well. So if you think there is something to eating a diet designed for inflammation reduction, then do it. If it is going to work, you should know in a matter of weeks to months. Then you can come back here and author a post about how it worked for you and the assumptions or science that guided your food choices.

Thank you for the response and insightful comments, VikingMan! Like many, Meniere's effects me during barometric changes. With spring and summer storms coming, I'm trying to find ways to minimize my symptoms so I can better enjoy spring and summer. I'm bilateral so I'm fighting hard trying to find solutions so I don't go completely deaf in both ears. Fortunately, I have never had bad vertigo spells. I get minor spins when I'm really stressed out.

At the very least, consuming a better diet is going to help my body cope with my Meniere's symptoms better. I'm currently in the search for a doctor who will care enough to at least look at antiviral documentation that has been posted on this website. Years ago I use to have really bad herpes out breaks in the back of my throat due to extreme stress. There's a good possibility that my Meniere's has been caused by the herpes virus. I know lysine can also help suppress the herpes virus. Due to some other health issues, I want to take lysine and/or antivirals under the care of a physician. I will report back on how the diet is going. Thanks again! Mike

If you can't find a regular doctor to read the research and prescribe the anti-virals, a naturopath might be more open to it. They are often regarded as quacks, but they at least often have the mindset of looking for causes, and not just dealing with symptoms.
