Lauren Hill was a 19 year old student and basketball player at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. She passed away last Friday after fighting a truly courageous battle against a terminal form of brain cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG. Rather than retreating to her home to feel sorry for herself and wait to die, she chose to use the final months of her life to inspire others and to help raise awareness and funding towards researching the disease which was quickly taking her young life. Despite the fact that there was nothing that could be done to save her own life, she did whatever she possibly could to raise awareness by giving interviews, attending telethons and allowing herself to BE the face of DIPG in the hopes that researchers will one day find a cure for this most aggressive and fatal form of cancer. Before her passing last week, she raised over one million dollars in research funding and inspired everyone who knew her or even knew OF her to be the best person they could possibly be and to never take life for granted because none of us are promised tomorrow or in her own words “All we have is the moment we have right now.” May this truly amazing young lady rest in peace and continue to inspire others through her example to be loving, kind and positive influences in this world and to “Never give up” even when life becomes challenging and difficult. Lauren Hill ~ October 1, 1995 – April 10, 2015
Lulu I followed her story. Thanks for posting this. She was an amazing young lady. We all need someone like her in our lives to remind us of how fortunate we are.
Yes, lulu thanks for posting!!! As Red, I also followed this story closely. An inspiration and hero to a all. The human spirit never ceases to amaze me.
Very well said, Red and BD. I couldn't agree with you more. So much wisdom, courage and maturity from someone so young. An awe inspiring young lady who has already left quite a mark on the world and no doubt will continue to do so in the future.
I know from personal experience that we Menierians can be a little financially challenged at times due to our ongoing health issues but I’ll provide a link below to The Cure Starts Now Foundation if you would like to make a Lauren Hill tribute fund donation. No amount is too great or too small and any and all donations are greatly appreciated I’m sure. Researchers believe if they can find the cure for DIPG they’ll be able to unlock the secret to curing all other forms of cancer as well so this research is vitally important.
