I've been under enormous of stress and broke out into shingles.

My tinnitus is off the charts.

    Anyone else, care to share?

So sorry to hear this Bella, were you on an antiviral when you broke out with shingles? I've been curious since I take an antiviral if that would prevent me from getting shingles.
If not are you on one now for shingles?

I hope you feel better soon.

No, I've begged for years to multiple doctors for ant-viral for my Meniere's. No one give it to me. My daughter has been hospitalized and noticed the rash on my chest last night. This morning we went to meet with my daughters doctor and noticed it spread up my neck and part if my back. He gave me anti-viral cream and I see my PCM tomorrow morning after I meet with my daughters doctor about her. When it rains, it pours. :(.

Maybe NOW your doctor will give you a script for an antiviral for MM if you show him the studies about MM being caused by HSV.

He should definitely give you an AV for shingles though, I hope this changes his mind about your MM and antiviral for it.
Maybe if you tell him your tinnitus is through the roof that may persuade him.

Feel better! From what I have heard shingles is not fun :(

I had shingles on my body about 20 years ago and got antivirals for it. It came back 10 years ago but this time I believe as menieres in my inner ear, but couldn't get antivirals. Your doctor shouldn't refuse antivirals for shingles as it is standard medication for that condition.

I'm living abroad NOW, so I'm sure they will give me AV, the cream is an anti-viral. :)

Funny you should say that, yesterday morning I woke up and said to my husband I think I have an earache in my "dead" ear.
I kinda blew it off and thought it was from grinding my teeth and making the pain go to the jaw/ear.
As I sat in the hospital chair my arm that is now infected, had a sharp pain. I though it was the way I was sitting.
    This morning BAM...it spread.

If you do some further reading on shingles is does say extreme cases can cause deafness/vertigo and encephalitis.

Geez, Bella, I'm really sorry to hear this news.

I've heard shingles can be very painful. I wonder if they will give you pain meds?

I hope it doesn't spread much.

I'm here for you if you need me!

Lysine (3000 mg, in 3 1000mg doses, w/o food) per day can slow or stop a shingle infection.

    Thanks.

I think the cream my daughters doctor gave me has stopped the spreading. It's acyclovir

Where? Lysine is available over the counter in the US, UK, and Canada, and much of the rest of the world.

Monday I started on 2400 mgs a day of Acyclovir and the cream.
Tuesday and Wednesday it spread more.
I call the office this afternoon, she upped the dosage to 3000 mg a day of Acyclovir.

I have more on my chest, neck, and back, I'm a #9.

wait so I'm freakin out? Those of you with MD are getting shingles too? Should I be ready to expect that next? This month of April has just about been the worst month of my life. I have been so sick and dizzy I haven't worked in weeks. I'm gonna try a couple hrs tomorrow. Are any of you on disability for MD? I applied last june, and they sent me a denial letter in Jan., I hired an attorney...and we asked for a review, and now he's telling me it's been approved. Don't know all the details yet, but I am hopeful.

anyone who has had chicken pox (which is an HSV) can get shingles, having Meniere's or not. Bella was not taking any antivirals when she came down with shingles.
