I have been wondering about the same too! I hope you don't ask because antivirals stopped working for you?
I am taking acyclovir for almost 2 and a half years. Next month be 2.5 years and so far so good. Not 1 vertigo attack or dizzy spells since Jan 2013. Why are you asking Bea do you feel they stopped working for you?
Let me be more clear. I do not have extreme vertigo. What I'm having is...sort of vertigo but never full-blown attacks. Nausea frequently. Brain Fog off the charts. Mild tinnitus, some aural fullness. This is every to every other day. By the end of any given day I'm exhausted. I'm taking Zyrtec, because we are having a "pollen tsunami" as stated on the news. I see OTO next week. Just wondered if it's a seasonal thing, like some people are more symptomatic in Jan and Feb, or if anyone else ever experienced this. I am still functional in every way. If I weren't taking the antivirals I "think" I'd be having full-blown episodes but I'm not sure. It may be that I just have to increase dosage or switch to Famvir. He'll tell me and I'll let everyone know.
Can you be more clear? Have you been taking antivirals for a long period of time and find you're slipping back?
Have you tried addressing MAV? From your symptoms we previous talked about many of them point to MAV. When my MM got under control with acyclovir my MAV symptoms became more apparent. Try avoiding all the MAV trigger foods. and see if that helps.
Thank you Vicki. I have avoided all the MAV trigger foods. I will discuss this with my OTO next week.
Bea, allergy season is rough on MM symptoms too. What dose and which AV are you taking? But Im glad you are going to discuss MAV with your Dr. Some people avoiding trigger foods just isn't enough unfortunately.
BumbleBea, have you been doing well on antivirals for some time, and the situation has recently changed? I do not understand completely.
I've been on antivirals for 2-1/2 years. Once it kicked in I was symptom free. Dosage was initially 400mg. 3X a day. Now I take 400mg. 2X a day though I have increased it again. I'll ask him if Famvir would be a better choice as well.
Bea can you get on valcyclovir? It should work better for you I think. For those who can tolerate it, it seems to do a better job than acyclovir
Hopefully this isn't too off-topic but does taking antivirals 1 - Stop the attacks 2 - Stop only the vertigo but not the other symptoms 3 - Stop all the classic symptoms (Veritgo, aural fullness, tinnitus, low-frequency hearing loss) ?
All symptoms. Maybe some mild tinnitus and fullness but I can live with that. I don't know about others experiences. Vicki Baldy clover or Famvir??
oops hair loss* too from people taking it, although its not listed as a side effect for famvir but I searched and found many saying the same thing about famvir and hair loss
