Enjoy - If monolaurin is actually in there killing viruses - which live in cells - there could be a lot of debris and inflammation in your tiny little inner ear. If it were me, and it is not but I have experienced similar situations, I would stop monolaurin altogether for a few days to see if things settle down a bit. Give your body time to do its natural thing and clean out the debris, do a little healing. Its a thought.
Please don't regard my perspectives on pharmaceutical companies as cynicism. It's not. It's reality. Case in point. No major drug company is conducting any major efforts in developing antibiotics these days. Drug-resistant bacteria have the potential -- legitimately feared by physicians -- of returning all of us to the pre-antibiotic era, where, as before penicillin, a simple skin infection from a scrape or puncture could turn fatal in a few days. The big-pharma problem with efficacious (curative) antibiotics is that they do just that, they cure. One set of sales for a few pills or injections, and that's the end of those sales to that client. Can't make much money that way. Instead, work on cancer drugs. There's where the shareholders will be rewarded. No drug will cure cancer, but each "prolongs life and reduces suffering" -- at TREMENDOUS expense. For $100,000 (realistic, not made-up) Aunt Maude can be allowed to live another few months, maybe even a year or more, with a new cancer drug. The longer the drug keeps her alive, the more profits the drug company makes. Yes, aspirin was discovered in and then extracted from willow bark (but is now chemically synthesized). It made the German chemical company Bayer, a century ago. But today, laws prevent the patenting of naturally-existing molecules. In the case of monolaurin, this coconut oil component molecule simply cannot be patented. Yes, a clever organic chemist could hang all sorts of radicals onto the molecule, making it non-natural and therefore patentable. But that also changes it, and it likely would no longer have any ability to suppress herpes viruses. Not being cynical. Pharmaceutics of the 21st century ain't what they were a century ago, for better or worse. --John of Ohio
enjoy read my post in your other thread I think you are misunderstanding the maintenance dose concept of antivirals.
Oh, I thought she was talking about increasing the monolaurin. That was what my response was based on.
Thanks Donamo for your sharing, still trying to absorbing all info on this thread about monolaurin. @Vicki, i am trying to test and see if monolaurin can help without increasing my current AV. I thought it was mentioned in the first post of this monolaurin thread that we can slowly increase the dosage of monolaurin as the weeks go by?
I only know the doses for laurcidin because it is stated on their site, I am not sure of how to increase other manufactures, but the life extension article I posted gives an idea of the doses for their brand. You can also refer to the study I posted, it may be of some help. Does your brand give any dose instructions? Also check out amazon's reviews there are many, it might help you there too.
enjoy if you are taking the lauricidin this is the dosing for it 1st week: 1/4 teaspoon (or 1/4 scoop) 2-3 times a day with food 2nd week: 1/2 teaspoon (or 1/2 scoop) 1-3 times a day with food 3rd week maintenance dose: 1 teaspoon (or a whole scoop) 2-3 times a day with food
this is the dosing for the life extension monolaurin which is 600 mg Note: Some physicians recommend taking 6 capsules when one has a flare up of the herpes virus, and two capsules as a maintenance dose. Sometimes the herpes virus can be activated by Monolaurin, and then killed, resulting in a Herxheimer-like reaction where one feels worse before feeling better.
ok I found this clarification on dosing http://www.rockwellnutrition.com/p-ecological-formulas-monolaurin-300mg-90-caps To treat herpes virus, some physicians recommend taking 1800mg of Monolaurin when there is a flare-up and 600mg as a maintenance dose during dormant periods. Sometimes the herpes virus can be activated by Monolaurin and then killed, resulting in a Herxheimer-like reaction. The lauricidin has different dosing instructions
I am taking this from this brand http://www.healthfromthesun.com/monolaurin-1.html it's ok to be honest if you are doubtful about this brand or the purity of the ingredient. Let me know if we are on the right frequency about the dosage. Thank you.
and it also says to take them in divided doses. So maybe try taking 1800 mg but dividing it into 3 times a day, 600 mg in morning 600 mg in afternoon 600 mg in evening if you are not taking the laurcidin
So if based on the above what you said 1800mg, and I have been taking 1100mg X 2 each morning for the past 2-3 weeks before the last weekend flare-up, so the monolaurin is not working or the ingredients are not good enough from this brand? No worries, no blaming anyone here. We are here to test and let others benefit from our experiences.
well let me ask you from how I read the label 2 capsules is 1 serving which = 1,100 mg or am I reading it wrong? which would mean you are taking 1,100 mg a day.
hahahaha.... ;D my sincere apologies. Taking for pointing out to me on this small print. you are the best.
If I am correct you are taking a bit too little according to the articles I posted which says to take 1800 mg a day divided into daily doses. I would think you need to spread out the doses to get better coverage.
LOL... i am 40 this year... guess i am too busy with so many things to watch out the fine print. So after you "corrected" me, i don't think this coconut is harmful to take too many at a time? Which means I took for the first time today at 2 pills = 1100mg in the morning and just now 2 pills 1100mg. I had a total of 2200mg already. Can i go more tomorrow?
I really don't know about monolaurin, just what I have found on the studies and articles. I never heard of it before I stumbled across the information. I am not qualified to answer dosing questions. But I would take 2 pills in the morning and two pills in the late afternoon or early evening, and since that article said doctors recommend 1800mg I would not go higher than you are with 4 pills, I would wait and see how you feel doing it this way also you might want to call the company and talk to them and see what they say and speak with a pharmacist or nutritionist they would be the ones who would most likely be familiar with monolaurin dosing.
I read the laurcidn site and it says this Low and slow”: For individuals ages 12 and older, start with 1/4th of a teaspoon (1/4th of the blue scoop) two to three times a day with food, and slowly work up to 1 teaspoon (1 full blue scoop) two to three times a day with food. and it also says How many grams of monolaurin are in one teaspoon (1 scoop) of Lauricidin®? One teaspoon (one scoop) contains approximately 3g (3000mg) of monolaurin But they emphasis increasing slowly I don't know if 3000 mg of laurcidin is equivalent to 3000 mg of the monoluarin you are taking since yours has also Other Ingredients: Vegetable cellulose capsule, magnesium stearate and silica. and it says on the laurcidin site Are monolaurin in capsules the same as Lauricidin® pellets? No. The usual 300 mg capsule contains in addition to 300mg monolaurin, a base of inosine 7.5 mg and calcium-phosphate 106 mg with inert ingredients: dicalcium-phosphate, cellulose-powder and silicon-dioxide. Lauricidin®, on the other hand, is the purest monolaurin commercially attainable and is without any fillers or allergens. So you will be taking more of the inert ingredients if you increase more than the bottle recommends. I am trying to figure this out as we go. But increase slowly to avoid any reactions, and ask a professional who might know.
Thanks Vicki for taking the time to search all the info between Lauricidin and Monolaurin and enlighten us. LOL, i bought the latter as I was reading fast on your first post in this thread. Anyway, JOH can give us some ideas as he is able to read these info and compute them for us? Thank you in advance.
