I would like to hear from JOH too since he is taking it as well and get an update. Although he is not taking it for MM it would be nice to hear if it helped him or not.
about 2-3 weeks ago I started taking a vit B complex and using virgin coconut oil on my scalp and hair about twice a week (for my thinning hair) I wonder if any of the coconut oil gets absorbed into my bloodstream and the lauric acid gets turns into monolaurin, I doubt it but am curious to find out. Maybe JOH would know if that's at al possible.
I took some Monolaurin, the one where 2 pills = 1100 mg and it increased my MD symptoms. That's why I suggest go very slow. Fixing a cold sore is one thing, fixing a delicate and intricate inner ear is a whole different ball game.
yah that happens to some starting antivirals too, but at least its a sign its working. But I agree all the advice is take it slow when it comes to increasing monolaurin Donamo are you still taking monoluarin? If so has it helped?
No, I stopped for the last couple of days. I only took it for a couple of days. My symptoms are back to their usual plateau and I will cautiously leave well enough alone for a little while. I don't want to mess up my golf game! ;D Well, probably can't get much worse but at least I want to hear the ball crashing into the trees!
LOL I understand completely, that's why I wont try it at this point av's are doing such a great job for me I'm afraid to rock the boat
Transdermal absorption (through the skin) of the monolaurin in coconut oil may work for some skin conditions; but I doubt enough can be absorbed to be carried by the bloodstream into the tissues of the inner ear. It would be locally concentrated in the skin, but hihgly diluted in the entire blood stream. I read that in the Phillipines coconut oil has been a common treatment for virtually every skin condition, with very favorable results. But the effect, I think, is only local, in the skin. Yes, I'm taking monolaurin, in much lower doses, for an unrelated condition. I noticed that I felt sick, systematically, on the second day. I have every reason to believe that this was a Herxheimer reaction, where the monolaurin killed off some microbes and sickened me as the body tried to clear the microbial debris. Consequently, because I had meetings and events to attend, I've backed off the stuff for now; will resume in a week or two when I can lay around for a few days with the Herx reaction. Actually, after the second day off the stuff, I felt a lot better than I did before taking it; so it had some good effect (which I can assure was not placebo). I'm going to go slowly with his stuff, slowly ramping up the daily dose (starting with just one capsule a day), for some good time. Then, two. I may be able to avoid the Herx this way. I'm in no rush on this. --John of Ohio
I had the same reaction when I first started taking it and each time I increased my dosage, John. I felt like I was coming down with the flu for a few days after each increase. It wasn't bad enough to send me to bed but had it been just a little worse, it probably would have. In hindsight I probably should have started with a lower dosage and built up more slowly but I was so desperate to try and head off the next impending vertigo attack that I followed the recommended dosing pretty closely. I hope you have better results and less of a Herx reaction the next time you start with a lower dosage and increase it more slowly. Best wishes to you, Lulu
Looks like we are all getting the ball rolling to get this monolaurin testing out. I will tell you what is going on after JOH and Lulu mentioned about getting a bit sick the first few days. I just checked my emails. I received my monolaurin on 15th May and started taking it on 16th? And somewhere along 18 or 19th, i started to have some flu for about a week, i thought i got it from another colleague, coincidental? It is Wednesday here. I woke up this morning with my hearing slightly better. Standing at 15-20% now, probably due to natural healing and still at JOH and 2 X 500 mg valac past 2 days since Sunday onset, and of course, yesterday 4 pills of the monolaurin. I just packed my vitamin box with my usual JOH and 6 X monolaurin.
be careful about increasing monolaurin too fast, enjoy, you only took 4 pills for one day, I don't think its a good idea to go to 6 pills today, but ofc its your decision. Just my 2 cents worth.
Enjoy - I absolutely agree with Vicki. I would maybe wait a week or so before increasing your dosage again. And, as a friend of mine advised me to do, be sure to drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins out of your system more quickly.
This would be interesting if someone was tested for any HSV before taking monolaurin, and is now trying monolaurin, to be retested again in about 4-6 months or so to see if they still test positive for it or have a lower positive result. That may be a way to see if it really kills the virus. Im not asking anyone to do this I was just thinking of a way to see if it really kills a virus. If I do try monolaurin at some point I will definitely do that since I was already tested for HSV so my primary would have an explanation for prescribing an antiviral for me if ever questioned, and my results were high positive for HSV 1
i am finally back home after a long day. I dunno if it is considered a good or discouraging day. It was a good morning to start off with, my hearing slightly better only. After lunch, after taking the 2nd batch of 2 X monolaurin pills, around 3-4 pm, i started to feel that my hearing is going downhill a bit. Was it the virus screaming or the last burst of defeat. I continue with my 3rd batch of dinner, still the same. almost bedtime here, i am still at 2 X 500mg valac, very tempted to take 1 or 2 X 500mg valac......sigh....
It is working well. I quickly moved up to 1 scoop 3x per day. I was feeling so terrible when I started it that I didn't notice it making me feel any worse. I just ordered another canister of it. I take it, lysine, pycogenol, and valcyclovir. Bloodwork looks good so I am continuing these things. Might do OPC instead of pycogenol next. Had a small setback this week but I did feel improvement my first two weeks. I look forward to seeing what happens after a few months. I was mid cluster of horrible vertigo when I started the previously stated med/supps. Maybe the reason I had quick initial results was because the virus was "out" and active? The meds could attack it right away? I hear so many say it took months to see improvement, I wanted to think my early improvement was good and might be lasting...it still maybe too early to tell though.
I have been taking 4,400 mg of monolaurin for over a week. I haven't notice any ill effects by upping the dosage. I take 2,200 mg in morning and night. I sometimes wake up with hearing at 25% of right ear, but it usually increases to 50-75% of right ear an hour after taking my morning regimen: I start off with 1,000 mg of lysine, 1,000 of valacyclovir, 2 capsules of OPC ( from Wholehealth) and 2,200 mg of monolaurin. Repeat in the evening except I'm not taking the lysine or valacyclovir at night. I'm taking the lysine also for balancing out/or canceling any arginine I might consume. Damn arginine is EVERYWHERE!!
thank you both for the updates @ gardngal glad you feel it is going well, that's wonderful. Interesting about you cutting back the val and lysine at night, and I am assuming you are still vertigo/dizzy free with cutting back?
