Hi Domano good to see you posting and glad to hear you found your maintenance dose. Enjoy, no I know my symptoms will return if I stop due to the fact that they act up under certain circumstances, like when I am ill or over indulge in foods high in arginine etc.etc Which makes sense that the virus would become active w/o anything suppressing it. I might at some point try monolaurin and slowly go off the antivirals, but its difficult for me to stop something that has taken away vertigo, dizziness etc. for 2 and a half years after suffering for 47 years.
Well, it seems like all of us are in the same boat. We can't seem to taper down the dosage. Let me be the first to taper down over the next few days in the midst of this attack and update you all. By coming Thursday, if i do not recover at least of my usual 50%, i will have to increase my dosage, for the sake of my job.
I succeeded in tapering down and been on the maintenance dose (800 mg)for over a year.I am just letting you know Dr Gacek's time table is not written in stone and many of us take longer to be able to. Personally I see no point in decreasing and suffering when you can increase a bit and feel well. You can always keep trying to decrease again. BUT in his paper Dr Gacek states each patient needs to find the lowest dose w/o symptoms sometimes that dose is more than the lowest dose in his protocol.
this is pasted from Dr Gacek's paper on page 104 "Most patients experienced relief from vertigo in the first 2 weeks but some required a longer period. The gradual lowering dose was then used to find the lowest level maintenance dose for a given patient. Most were controlled on a single dose daily but occasionally a patient required an adjustment to 1,200 mg of acyclovir or 1,500 mg of valacyclovir."
Hi Enjoy I am now taking WholeHealth brand of OPC I have dropped down to one dose 1,000 mg of valacyclovir each day. I also take 1,000 mg of lysine first thing in morning, wait 20 minutes before having coffee and breakfast, and monolaurin. My hearing does fluctuate. Sometimes I start off the morning and I can barely hear my fingers rubbing, but I can hear them. I haven't had brain fog or vertigo for over three months now. I always have tinnitus, sometimes in both ears. Most of the time it's easy to ignore. Good health to you!
I'm glad you are doing well Santa! But isn't it difficult to say which is giving you the relief? the OPC, the AV or the Lysine? or any combination of 2?
I can't really say which one or if it is a combo. I will continue taking valacyclovir. Lysine, OPC, and Monolaurin until the cows come home or this virus is dead. If the virus dies out then I know the cows are home and I will eliminate these supplements one at a time. Maybe then I will find out which one gets the most credit from me. Good Health to Everyone and remember stay on my Good List
LOL well if the virus does get killed off I would say its the monolaurin since it is said to actually kill viruses and I buy a ton of it LOL
I have to say this. My hearing is not improving much past 2 days. I gave up the wait and patience. And started on 6 X 500mg Vala today. And will be doing so for the next about 1 week and then go to 4 X 500mg. Seems like my hearing is coming in slowly.
And it's true, I just woke up morning here, after i took my 6 X 500mg first time yesterday, my hearing is at the best level since the onset of Sunday.....
Hi Carissa, sorry I haven't posted much lately but it's my busy season at work. Here's my thread on monolaurin, you can read all about it here http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?topic=1058.0
