Has anyone heard of a connection between
Thyroid and menieres. I read there was
A connection. Doctors seem unsure. Just wondering
If anyone has a thyroid condition or heard
    Of this .

I have Hasimotos as well as Menieres.
They say it is an auto immune thing.

I have hypothyroidism, but I got MM when I was 13 and thyroid went bad at age 50. My endo Dr said many women get thyroid issues as they get older.
But definitely autoimmune diseases and MM are connected which is most likely autoimmune as well.

Thanks Lisa, yes it has been a tough life having it so young, but I lived long enough so far to finally get symptom relief for 2 and a half years now. There is always hope!

Wow - 13? I had my first episode at 20 and I thought THAT was young - but I didn't know what it was - and I didn't go to the Dr for years - I just dealt with the symptoms -- what 20 something thinks they have a disease? LOL - wasn't until my first hearing test at 27 that it was even mentioned -and even then it was never followed up or put together.

I did have my thryroid checked recently though and all was normal thus far - thankfully.

I had my first vertigo attack in my 30s, kept going to doctors who said I had an inner ear infection and would give me antibiotic for a week. Never heard of MM until 2 years ago when a ENT finally diagnosed MM, sure wish I had a heads up in my 30s things may have been different for me now. I have lost almost all of the hearing in my right ear and have bilateral constant tinnitus. All the usual symptoms
Going to see a cognitive behavior specialist next week for the anxiety that comes along with all of this. Use to think I could just handle all the changes in my life but need some help it appears as I have been having panic attacks.

Forgot to say I started having thyroid problems in the last two years. I have multiple nodules on my thyroid with one that keeps growing so may loose my thyroid, needle biopsy was benign, MD says it is auto immune as is my MM

I was treated with multiple rounds of antibiotics by my PCP too.... It wasn't until I went to Yale to particpate in a tinnitus study that the Dr there told me that he highly suspected Meniere's...and that I didn't qualify for the study - I honestly didn't care I just wanted some sort of relief from all the symptoms. Then you know the rest - months and months of testing and ruling this and that out to come to the diagnosis.

I had my first MM symptoms about 15 years ago and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism around 8 or 9 years ago.

I read that once the thyroid problem
    Is corrected mm symptoms subside
    And can go away

Not so for me Lisa I have been on synthroid since I am 50 and still had MM symptoms up until almost 3 years ago when the antivirals started controlling them.

Also I would think if Meniere's like symptoms subside when a thyroid is treated then I doubt it was Meniere's in the first place. Many diseases mimic MM symptoms, they refer to it as Meniere's Syndrome but that's not having Meniere's Disease.

True Vicky I'm just learning a lot of menieres through
This forum and research , from what I've read antivirals help
If a virus caused it , and steriods usually
Work if its an auto immune problem in which
Case it is menieres syndrome I guess
For me time will tell but it's nerve wracking all
    These symptoms

well I think Meniere's disease can have different causes and a virus is one, fungal infection is another and Meniere's disease is most likely autoimmune too. When I mentioned Meniere's syndrome I was referring TMJ, Cervical Spine or Sinus etc issues that cause the same kind of symptoms as MM.

Many of us with MM have other autoimmune disease or have family members who do.

Yes it does have different causes the problem as it was
Explained to me by one dr is to try and find the
    Cause it involves lots
Of testing which most docs don't do and only
Treat the symptoms ,can be very difficult
    To
Find if its an autoimmune problem I've also
Heard it can be caused by dental
Work for me I have tmj, had a dental implant
The week before the onset and over medicated
Thyroid at the same time. So I'm trying to find
The cause . Tried antivirals and they did not
Help so now just getting thyroid corrected
