I could use any advice right now. I've had right ear MD for around 4 years, follow JOH (most), lo so, no caff, etc. I'm on betahistine 16 mg x3, loratatine, pycnogenol, meclizine. Pollen season was so bad I had my first bad attack in a long time, now they won't stop. Pollen is better, but my vestibular system is in an uproar. I have a national board exam this coming Tuesday. I called my new Oto and he's on vacation, the on-call won't prescribe a low dose of valium. I've never taken anything like that before and it took a lot for me to even call and ask for it. They said go to the ED. I'm sitting here sobbing because this is the 2nd Oto I've tried, the 1st one wouldn't prescribe Zofran when my dh called with me lying in the hall covered in vomit. Has anyone tried Calms? Anything else to get me semi-functioning to study and get to this exam? Thanks for any help, I'm so tired...
Go to a psychiatrist and ask for it. Say you're completely nervous/anxious and have miner's disease. They will give it to you.
I'm so sorry that you are having such a tough time of it right now. That's ridiculous that the docs won't prescribe valium or another type of sedative to get your vestibular system to calm down. Call again and let your husband do the talking and let him explain the situation. Maybe they could just prescribe 4 or 5 if that makes them feel better. I hope you are feeling better soon and that you make it through your exam. Maybe some Chamomile tea and ginger for the nausea.
I hope you feel better, have you taken any allergy meds like OTC Zyrtec? or take allergy shots? You could try Benadryl its OTC and vestibular suppressant and an allergy medicine, and has a calming effect, some get sleepy on it, I do not as a rule. Jusr make sure it does not interact with any of your other meds, ask you pharmacist.
Thanks for replying Vicky, James, and acujen. It is so good to talk with people who understand this disease. I asked for only 10 days worth of meds and I'd come for an appt, but they won't budge. acujen, maybe I can try the general care practitioner before I ask a psychiatrist. Can't get to either until Monday though (GP closed Fridays). I'm sure the Oto on call thinks I am a drug seeker, that's what is so frustrating. The partner Oto hardly wanted to hear about me during the 1st appointment, other than to confirm that I have MD. He won't prescribe antivirals either. Vicki, I'm taking loratadine (Claritin), and tried the max dose of Allegra during the worst of pollen season. I was thinking before fall, I'd see if the GP will prescribe Singulair or other allergy med. I wonder if the steroid nasal sprays are good with MD? Benedryl may help me sleep better--thanks! James, I can hold down ginger ale today! Chamomile tea sounds good--think I have some Sleepytime with that in it. Do most people with MD have to keep searching for doctors that are interested?
First, I would think that if you go into full vertigo attack and your husband drives you to the Emergency Room they will give you valium there to stop the attack. They may be able to give you a small amount of pills upon discharge to tide you over until you can find a reasonable doctor. That said, I have Lorazapam to put under my tongue if a full vertigo attack hits. My dr will only prescribe 10 at a time and will not support taking them just in case. Only for full attack. I would agree to see a physcologist because simply from the anxiety I would think they will prescribe something that will do double duty. i would go in talking more about the anxiety, stress, etc..vs the Meniere's. Although it does not help me for full vertigo, Meclizine does help me for the off/dizzy feeling. You may want to try to find that. In the US (not sure where you are from) it is available over the counter. Take care
