Since my tooth got infected it before I had it pulled it affected my bad ear. When the infection was active it made my ear numb and I had split second vertigo attacks but it never manifested in spinning, then I was fine.

It is still happening now and then, even though the infection is gone and the tooth is gone as well (no bridge yet).

I just laid down few minutes ago, on my bad ear side which I always do w/o a problem since being on acyclovir, and it happened again. The feeling right before you know you are going to spin, only I don't spin and its over in a second. Afterward my ear rang loud and high pitched and that lasted for a few seconds.

Any ideas about what is going on with my ear?

It could be that the infection is gone but the inner workings of the ear are still recovering.

Yes I take biotin but it is in my B complex and only 50 mg of it,
I am hoping its from my infection/extraction still.
    Thanks for your input Santa

Funny that's what you told me!

I see dentist tomorrow for a filling. Then I have to figure out how I'm going to get 4 back teeth pulled as insurance is at its limit. Yes, they bother me some but I don't want it to get to where I'm in extreme pain.

    I will opt for sedation.

I just hope it doesn't mess with my ears after having the procedure done and finally back to normal.

Vicki, I know it's freaking you out like my experience did.
This is one time your ENT or OTO would be of the beat help.

    ((( hugs)))

    Don't stress. Stress = dizzy!!

thanks Bea, Im not stressed at all about it and it isn't that I am dizzy. Just now and then maybe once every few days I get a feeling I'm gonna spin but I don't, it doesn't even scare me its over so fast.

I think nicmger is right since this only started when I started having tooth issues and my dentist says it can take 1-2 months to heal.
I will wait and see if it gets less which it has, I was getting in a couple of times a day, now so far its every few days, and if it stops when I am totally healed. If not I will look into some type of inner ear doctor.

Since being on the higher doses of both antiviral and Lysine I haven't had the spinning vertigo in about seven weeks but I still get what I call "yips" where you just get a two second jolt that feels like the start of something but then it's over. I keep thinking it's the virus trying to fire up. Fortunately I only get them a couple times a day.

Could very well be the virus trying to fire up on me too, given my infection and extraction is right near my sinuses and on the side of my bad ear. In fact I have had several bad sinus headaches and sometimes a stuffed nose since the tooth/gum infection/extraction.
Other than that split second feeling of pending vertigo, early this morning, I felt fine today was and and about in this heat since 11:30 AM..hottest day of the year for nyc w/o an issue. I just got home at about 3:00 PM
    Thanks Sharon.

I mentioned Biotin because you mentioned it the other day for growing hair. My damn vanity talked me into buying Biotin. I don't really want to go bald, however; I probably will. I bought some Biotin and took 1,000 mcg. which is one gm. Next day I had aural fullness like I haven't had in three months.
So, no more Biotin for me, except what is in my multi-vitamin. 30 mcg.

I doubled up on valacyclovir yesterday and I am getting much clearer again.

Seems like a lot of us are starting to spin, But don't!!

    Good Health to You!!

Vicki, I very recently had similar tooth and had it pulled and the gum (if you reach up high on the gum with finger) will remain very irritated for at least 6 weeks. This, I feel puts irritation on the nerves and sinuses therefore affecting the ear. I think it will all settle down if you are patient. This can however (I feel) bring out of dormancy a virus and you could end up needing to go up on the acyc by double or who knows (my opinion) but I would be patient in the meantime, Dr. Hoover (joking)
