Move on and enjoy your success with your treatment, they say the best revenge is living well :) besides anger takes up too much bad energy. Screw him and enjoy your better health
    Just my humble opinion.

I whole heartily agree with Vicki. I traveled to Denver to see a Dr who not only specializes in Meniere's but also has it herself(she had surgery years ago). She convinced me to go off the antivirals and recommended the loso, diuretic, and magnesium. Within a week of going off my acyclovir I was back on bed with vertigo. Needless to say, I will not be seeing that Dr again and am not giving up antivirals again anytime soon!

I just started taking Monolaurin. I'll report back in a month with how it's working.

So this month has been pretty good for me. Ive only had one vertigo spell. And I blame that one on the Prednisone I took that morning. Compared to the 2 months before when I'd have a spell 3 times a week, I'm pretty happy with how things are going. I'm totally convinced that it's a virus. Changing my diet back to how it was before those 2 months (more lysine and less arginine) has done wonders. I'm also taking in more Lysine that I originally was (from 3g to 4.5 a day). Thanks so much for posting that article Vicki. I'm going to keep looking for a Dr that will prescribe AV's. Hopefully one day I'll find one!

wow that's wonderful! Fingers crossed your vertigo free days are ongoing for now on.

When I found that article I had no idea about monolaurin what it was or did, but after seeing in vitro studies, the HIV study and the tons of positive results from people on other forums for hsv's and that so many Drs and nutritionists recommend it to their patients, I felt it had to be shared here.

    Keep us posted!

Is everyone still good using Monolaurin? I got the Health From The Sun brand, I'm thinking to start today but since it's a fat I wonder if it would be bad for me if I have high cholesterol?

    I have read this:
Fatty acids are known to increase cholesterol in the bloodstream, which can lead to blocking of the blood-vessels in the heart prodcing heart attacks. And lauric acid is also known to produce the largest increase in total cholesterol of all the fatty acids. But this isn't as bad as it seems, because most of this increase is due to an increase in so-called 'good' cholesterol. Medics have classified cholesterol into two types, HDL and LDL, depending on the density of the lipoproteins. Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) are very bad for you, as they greatly increase the chance of getting arterial blockages, whereas HDL are not such a problem. As a result, medics believe that lauric acid lowers the total:HDL cholesterol ratio more than any other fatty acid, either saturated or unsaturated [3]. So eating coconuts may actually decrease the risk of getting heart disease, although that has yet to be properly proven.

BUT I would ask you cardiologist to be sure and safe.

Thanks Vicki! Yes I'll double check with my doctor, since seeing a cardiologist can take a month or more in Canada.

I am starting my third canister of it. I guess I have been on it 2+ months. I started it around the same time as valcyclovir. I have my life back. No vertigo, very little dizziness. Some pulsatile tinnitus. Sometimes even that goes away. Fullness is very low if present at all. I am so thankful for this forum. Unbelievable.

that's wonderful! Gardengal. I feel the same about these forums w/o it I would not be vertigo free for over 2 and a half years thanks to the members who told me about acyclovir.

Gardengal - I just read through all of your posts. You have had amazing success! I'm very happy for you. At one point you mentioned that your doctor was very strict on the taper down part with the AVs. How is that going? Are you on a maintenance dose already?

Since you started both AVs and monolaurin at the same time it is hard to say what is being effective for you.

The taper had bumps in the road but the number of pills somehow worked out. I took the angle of feel better, take the pills as I need, and beg for more AV if I have to. If I didn't give the AV a fair shot bc I didn't take enough I might miss out on them working. My husband even said we would go find ANOTHER dr to prescribe them if this one wouldn't be understanding...it hasn't come to that.

    I did:
    - 4 weeks on 3g per day
    - 10 days of 2g per day
    - 14 days of 3g per day (I was had about 4 funky/bad days in a row so I wanted to increase the dose)
    - now back to 2x per day with no prob

I will get down to one time per day in 2 weeks hopefully. I won't hesitate to go back up on them if needed. I won't taper down if I feel weird when the time comes to taper to 1gram. I got nervous when I went down to 2g for the second time but it has been fine. Dr gave me 2 refills of 60 pills. My first refill I needed a week before I "should" have but they let me pick it up "early" no problem. If I taper normally from here I think it will be perfectly reasonable to call the doctor for a refill, even if it is a week or so early.

I am extremely hesitant to talk about the success. I do want to encourage others to try this but I am so afraid it will come back. I hope as time passes this will be less and less of a concern. Some moments of some days seem too good to be true. I hope that it is not. I just have to live in the moment. I will be quite "caught up" if the time comes to go face down for months. Chores around the house and yard are finally getting done.

what would be great, if the monolaurin takes up the slack with antivirals. What I mean is av's are far from perfect and there are times we need to increase our dose temporarily under certain situations.

I'm wonder if taking monolaurin with av's is a more powerful way to keep that virus in its latent state.

gardengal some of us need to stay on the higher dose longer than Dr Gacek's protocol. It took me 8 months to be able to decrease from 1200 mg of acyclovir to 800 mg maintenance dose w/o symptoms coming back.

I'm happy to hear you are doing well now on the 2 grams of val.

I also take lysine 3g/day. I want to throw everything I can at this virus.

I can't think of a reason not to take the monolaurin/lauricidin with the AVs. From what I read it is the same as taking 15ml of coconut oil/day orally. Not a very risky thing to do and it may have great benefit.
