When you increase your dosage temporarily bc symptoms return, how long to you stay on the increased dose until you taper back down? I increased to 3g and it has been 5 days (at 3g). Thanks!!!
it depends, did it return because you decreased or because a situation brought on symptoms, stress, allergies, fatigue, illness etc? If it was situational decrease back when the situation has passed. If symptoms returned due to decreasing then I would say stay on the increased dose about another 2-3 weeks then try decreasing again. Some times it takes several tries before decreasing w/o symptoms returning Be careful about eating foods with the ratio high arginine to lysine.
I have added an "extra" for a day or two at max. At the initial load-in stage, I stayed on 3x day for 6 weeks vs the initial 3.
I don't think there was a situation. I think it may have been the tapering but the symptoms increased 10 days after the taper started. Would it be that delayed?
for me it happened within a day or two or three, so to me it sounds situational or food related but its just my guess. Try staying on the increased dose for a week or 2 more then try decreasing again. Keep in mind Dr Gacek's guidelines are not written in stone and its different for each of us
I just had a bit of a set back and I have increased my dosage to the original amount with the intention of gradually tapering off once I have found relief. I guess I'm treating it as though I just started Valtrex. It has been a month and I've been on 3gm per day. Finally, finally there is some, not full mind you, but the beginnings of relief (I hope complete soon) and at that point I'll taper back down to 2 gm per day for a bit, then one. I also started up my JOH regimen which I have vowed this time to stick to.
