What does the rapid eye movement mean when the Doctor tests you? That is horrible!! I know I have asked, but it makes the nauseated feeling intensify so rapidly. I know we aren't Doctor's here, I just need to hear what others have gone through. This really scares me!
I think it can tell him which part of the balance system is malfunctioning. Those 3 little semi-circular canals in the inner ear that perform the function of balance for us. The direction of the nystagmus while having an attack indicates which of those canals is malfunctioning. Or, if I remember what I read correctly, it can. Not sure what happens if more than one of them is malfunctioning at the same time. I understand your fear. I feel it to, keenly sometimes. But you are not alone. Never alone. Do you have a good support system around you now? Family and friends are an important part of surviving this damned disease. Which you can do. You can survive it. I know it probably doesn't feel like it now, but you can.
In my case I have downbeating nystagmus (my eyes move up and down rather than side to side) which my neurologist told me indicates a central nervous problem. I have vestibular migraines, not Ménière's, and the nystagmus is a result of this. Nystagmus is really common if you have a vestibular disorder. We can all relate to your fear.
Thank you both for your comments! It is helpful being able to chat with others about these odd symptoms.
I haven't had the eye movement when i have been tested, but I haven't been tested since the vertigo increased in June of this year, but am now on acyclovir and lysine and goal is for no more vertigo!
